Family is power. The Original vampire family swore it to each other a thousand years ago. They pledged to remain together always and forever. But even when you're immortal, promises are hard to keep.

Arriving in New Orleans in 1722, Original vampire siblings Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah Mikaelson believe they've escaped their dangerous past. But the city is lawless, a haven for witches and werewolves unwilling to share territory. The siblings are at their mercy...especially after Klaus meets the beautiful and mysterious Vivianne. Her impending marriage is key to ending the war between the supernatural factions - and Klaus' attraction to her could destroy the uneasy alliance. As Elijah works toward securing a piece of the city for his family, and Rebekah fights her unexpected feelings for a French captain, will Klaus' volatile desires bring their world crashing down - and tear them apart for good?

I found the Originals streaming one night and just loved the series. I did go back and watch the Vampire Diaries but I am a little too old for that one. I had a bunch of credits and thought hmm why not. And to my Very Happy surprise I am asking you why have you not downloaded them. Well read and definitely a great way to learn about how the Original Family cane to New Orleans. Ready to bite into the next book!!

I was hesitant on “reading” this book due to a review about the narrators voice for the characters. A good narrator makes it or breaks an audible. I had my reservations because of my love for Klaus. I have high standards for that character. Joseph Morgan plays his character so well. Let me say that the narrator did a phenomenal job matching the cadence of the characters. I was blown away. I would highly recommend. I love the show. I love the characters. They have such a variety of personality but yet also intune fundementally on a deeper level with each other. The author does a great job with making you fall in love with all of the characters. Each one holding a special place in your heart. There is at least something in all of them the reader can relate to and in someway humble the spirit in the best way. I love the setting. New Orleans is such a magical city. It does feel like stepping into the old world. You can feel the history and presence of magic of old walking the streets of New Orleans. The music, the art, the history…The author gives homage to that beauty and mystery. I love the conflicts within the characters as well as conflicts with external forces. The passion, the loyalty, the romance, the rage, the chaos, the hope, the mixture of fantasy and real world circumstances. I really wish the show would have followed this story path because it really would have been a game changer. I couldn’t get enough. I can’t wait to read the next book. So so good. Great job Julie Plec. You created something special I will cherish always. Great job Saskia Maarleveld. You brought these characters to life and continued my love for them. All the stars. Bravo.

Great story, but the female attempted male voice narration is terrible and very distracting. 10/10 otherwise.

Great story! Narration is terrible and distracting.

This was my first book by this author. I have to say I really enjoyed it. The plot the storytelling and the characters and narration were really good. The ending was sad. I’m looking forward to more books by this author.

The story line

There’s something unsettling about opening a book that feels less like a story and more like an invitation. The Originals: The Rise is just that—an invitation into the dark, tangled roots of New Orleans, where whispers echo down empty streets and shadows seem to follow you home after you’ve closed the last page.

Julie Plec doesn’t just give us vampires—she gives us predators in velvet cloaks, wolves with teeth still dripping, and witches who smile while the candles burn down to stubs. Every character you meet feels like they could lean off the page and into your ear, breathing secrets you weren’t meant to know.

The Mikaelsons—Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah—aren’t merely protagonists. They’re curses stitched into human form, moving with a charm that’s almost worse than their violence. By the time you realize you’re rooting for them, it’s too late—you’ve already fallen into their snare.

New Orleans in this book is alive, but not in the way a city should be. It thrums with hunger, the streets damp with old magic and blood-soaked history. There were moments when I swore I heard faint jazz music while reading in a silent room, and once, a knock at my door I never answered.

If you pick up The Originals: The Rise, be warned: it doesn’t feel like fiction. It feels like a spell cast in ink, a contract you signed without realizing it. And when you close the book, don’t be surprised if the air feels heavier… as though someone—or something—stayed behind with you.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
(But do I recommend it? Only if you don’t mind the shadows watching you afterwards.)

I loved the TV show so this side story was great. If I could hear the cast it would of topped this book, but the performance still captured it.

I miss the Original Family
