Glorification of Management Consulting

If you’re looking for a feel-good story to support your dreams of becoming Partner of a large consulting firm, then this may be worth your time. I find that this book focuses on those things that often put management consultants in a bad light - impressing clients, focusing on money, staying in 5-star hotels and flying business class to name a few. There are some aspects covered that are important to succeeding in consulting, but it often ends up sounding like BS bingo!

A must for those who want to excel as a consultant

As a consultant for a global ed tech company, I decided to listen to this book for my personal and professional development, expecting a good, motivational story with a few tips here and there in its deceptively short audio time. I have now listened to it twice and decided to purchase a paper copy to use as a career resource. I originally anticipated jotting down a few key point notes from each chapter; however, to my delight, I found that each chapter is incredibly dense with useful advice, methodology, and references, succintly and purposefully included. As I listened, the story held my attention, and I couldn't take notes quickly enough (therefore, the second listen, to catch what I could have missed). I felt like I was learning, like Samantha in the story, from a skilled and proven mentor who was mesmerizing and regaling me with a fable filled with real life lessons. The pdf, 50+ pages, is a valuable resource which brings the story to life even more, with organized thought points and examples of items a consultant will likely work with. I can't wait to share this book with my colleagues and to follow up with some of the books referenced by the author.
