Publisher's Summary

Written by a leader for leaders, The Millennial Whisperer shares proven, profit-driven strategies for leading millennials in the workforce.

The millennial generation is the largest, most diverse generation in the history of the United States. They will make up 75 percent of the workforce by 2030. Unfortunately, millennials made a poor first impression in the business world, developing the reputation of being lazy, entitled, selfish, and disloyal. The truth is, millennials are no lazier or more entitled, selfish, or disloyal than any previous generation; they just grew up with different experiences than older generations and are motivated by different things.

In The Millennial Whisperer, Chris Tuff puts into context the ways millennials differ from previous generations, and shares practical steps companies and leaders can take to immediately boost productivity without building an office full of ping pong tables, beer kegs, and participation trophies. Chris provides practical ways for leaders to build a corporate culture in which millennials can thrive, establish effective rewards systems at lower cost, address disciplinary methods effectively, and more!

Get ready to turn your conference room back into a conference room, bring the beer kegs home for your next birthday bash, and put the participation trophies in the trash where they belong.

Applies more broadly than title implies

I (a Millennial myself) feel like I understand the variety in skills, perspectives, and outlooks of my peers better having read this book. More importantly, the underlying concepts and ways of thinking are applicable to all generations and have immediately helped me empathize with other age groups -- as the life experience during formative years is key regardless of what time period is in question. I appreciate that other generations aren't writing off my generation and instead learning how great we can be and the, usually minor, adjustments that can be made to work that benefit everyone. Highly recommend!

meeehhh... is ok... Barely worth the price

This book presents a couple of good statistics regarding Millenials. Millennials in the marketing and publicity industry that is...

I have a manufacturing company servicing the steel industry and the principles in this book don't apply at any level to the majority of the millennials that belong to trades such as welders, electricians, mechanics, etc.

Millennials are a much wider generation that works in all industries and not only the reference industry that this book mentions. I have to say that if you have a marketing firm that has unlimited funds, this is the book for you and I wish you luck finding a "head morale coach" that can look after the "feelings" of the people that were born in this generation. But if you belong to an industry where its employees have to work with their hands to do something, I suggest you keep looking for a better guide to help you understand a generation like them.

There is a statement in this book that says "If at the end of the day you are not exhausted from doing all you can to help your employees, you are not doing enough".

In my industry, if you have an employee that requires more than an hour of attention on things not directly related to his/her job, you fire that person and look for someone else.

Regarding the way this book is read to you... well... the narrator becomes boring after chapter 3... particularly because he continues to talk about his company ALL THE TIME.

Obvious management advice

Unless you are still managing/leading teams like in the 80s, the advice on this book is very obvious and has been around for decades. If you already treat your members as individual people, then feel free to skip this book.

Very Informative

Great tips. Would have love to hear more about companies with different generations working under one roof and how to help them get along with millennials. Other than that great ideas, but definitely for a new age of leader.
