A Need to Read for a Better Future for All

Everyone wants better, and this is exactly what we need to follow to get there. The experience and words of wisdom from Seth Godin need to be shouted from the rooftops!

Made Lots of Connections

Maybe I liked it because of my own biases confirmed. We tend to like people who think like us. That said I liked the Audible version enough that it led me to buy the hard cover book as well. It has some ideas that I want to explore in more depth. I guess I wish the author would have also wanted to explore those ideas in more depth.

It’s a smattering of surface level insights seemingly from all over the place organized around the metaphor of how beehives work - I dug the metaphor.

I haven’t read anything else by Godin since his book Linchpin, which I found insightful. I would suggest that if you are Matthew McConaughey, then read your book. If you are Brendon Burchard or Seth Godin I say you step back and let a professional read your text and add life to it. Seth’s tone was flat and his reading lethargic. I had to go at 1.2 speed to stay interested.

People have started phoning in their work from home, merely holding onto their jobs until better opportunities arise. Simultaneously, the rapid advancement of generative AI tools like ChatGPT, coupled with green initiatives and digital transformation, promises further disruption, potentially affecting up to 25% of jobs according to the World Economic Forum.
Industrial Capital and Management vs. Market Capital and Leadership
The era of industrialism is fading, and companies that cling to outdated management practices pay a hefty price. Amazon, for instance, experienced a loss of over $8 billion due to attrition, with one-third of its workforce churning within a 90-day period. One of the primary reasons for this turnover is the company's reluctance to promote workers to management, particularly those without a college degree. But the deeper issue lies in the robotic nature of the work, the Taylorised mass production conditions, and the surveillance-driven focus on hourly performance.
Amazon's highly managed approach stifles autonomy and inhibits significant change and connections. While the company may be admired for its low cost and convenience, the human cost is substantial, leading to ongoing struggles with attrition and the risk of depleting the labor supply in certain cities.

scattered and often incorrect

This author clearly knows nothing about technology because the API analogy was wrong and counter the the point that the rest of the book was trying to make. There were other inaccuracies and oversimplifications but this was the most glaring.

A significant book

A great book at the right time. Seth Godin at his very best. Strongly recommended

A lot of great insights but…

… I didn’t find this a satisfying piece of writing to consume as an audiobook. It is, of course, a very condensed book with interesting points of view, but nevertheless, it didn’t leave me with much. I think re-reading it might be a good idea, but I don’t think I’ll do it soon. I rather read Seth’s blog.

The Next Gen will Focus on Significance

Change has become so rapid, industrial era ways need to transition out much faster. Seth always informs my mission to help Gen Z. Another thought provoking, emotion evoking and ultra-relevant read.
