After dying and being reborn into a world that's built like a video game, Jim has found himself stuck in a very old-world style new-player zone for low-level adventurers. Unfortunately, the zone fell out of use centuries ago, and no one told the monsters they were supposed to take it easy on the Noobs. Even worse, the only new player around is Jim.

Jim has been given an opportunity, and he'll do his best to take advantage of it.

Excellent

Very well done. Humor was on point and not overdone. Great performance by McClain. Interesting world and world building. A very powerful/lucky MC, but I think it is deserved and not OP, though that may be in our the future judging by his progress. However, Rimmel seems to be scaling his encounters well and realistically, and keeping it interesting.

My only true criticism is the jarring way the MC looks back on his past. We haven't really discussed in it a while, then BAM: Rimmel remembers that Jim cares about his family and is sad for a minute. Still, the way he pops in tidbits to shed light on Jim's past while keeping the focus on his new life is well done.

Again, as most litrpg is a guilty pleasure for me, I found this to be refreshing and don't feel guilty in the least. Highly recommend if you enjoy litrpg or are curious about the genre. As long as the series holds up, this will easily be a top 5. Looking forward to number two.

Excellent Wit and Sense of Humor

In a genre that can be quite similar Ryan Rimmel separated himself from the average author with his sense of humor and storytelling. He also picked a fantastic narrator who was able to capture that wit and carry it home.

No town building :(

Now that that is out of the way. I honestly would have enjoyed this book more if it had a better title. I mean a demon controlled character who breaks away with an OP talent and proceeds to try and game the system is an interesting take on a typically overdone trope. Jim is likable when he is not being stupid, but there is not enough meat on the bone of this tale to get it to 5 stars and even if there was I still have a hard time getting over a book named “The Mayor of Noobtown” that pretty much forgoes any and all town building.

laughed out loud the whole way and I'm looking forward to book 8 and more.

I finally bought this out of my wish list when it went on sale. my only regret is that I didn't buy it sooner.

There is an over-all story arc that the author put thought into. the author even makes references to things that will happen in future books. it is that cohesive.

Good news is that each book is a complete adventure that moves the arc forward but sets you up to want more. not like those other "series" that feel arbitrarily cut into multiple books.

Mr. Rimmel, I'm pleading with you: write faster!

Good Start

For the start of a story it isn't to bad. Lots of information though gets left in the void leaving the reader confused though. SO much information isn't given that it's not even funny sadly. You just summoned Jim here from another World that doesnt' have a System or Magic or Demons or Elves or Gods and yet you're confused why he doesn't seem to understand. THe biggest draw back is that Jim needs to seriously stop keening over his lost family. Move on my friend

Great intro to Jim & Shart

Just finished a great introduction, and getting book two now. Looking forward to the rest of the series too.

Action and Comedy in all the right places. Imagine “The Colbert Report” kind of comedy. On to the NEEEEXT!!

Enjoyable Skyrim-like book

Although the main character was a bit whiny, the book had a nice simple scope and fun progression. I also love shart

Dripping with sarcasm …

The narrator was perfect for this book. I think he nailed the tone, adding a lot of humor through his performance that would have been lost in the reading. In fact this is one of those cases where I suspect the book would have been a bit cumbersome to read, but it is perfect as an audiobook. But listen to the sample. That’s what the entire book is like. If you like that style, then the book is great, but if not, then you will hate it.

I rather enjoyed listening to this book. It was a bit different set up. The voice actor did a great job too.
