Publisher's summary

Where do you draw the line between fighting for the greater good and vengeance?

Six years ago, 17-year-old Karalevine Ruzz watched the alien tyrants abduct her best friend as she narrowly escaped capture herself. Now the Arianyte Empire has conquered Earth and is searching for the most powerful weapons in the galaxy: children branded with the mark of creation.

And Kara is one of them.

Kara can’t let go of her rage, the memories of what the occupation took from her a wound forever left open, even as the rest of the world submits to the powerful tyrants and accepts their new way of life. She is so determined to track down her friend that she plans to abduct Arianyte's second in command. But when Kara loses control of her volatile magic, she risks becoming a slave and the very weapon the empire wants most.

To get what she wants and keep her freedom, it comes at an extreme cost. Kara must decide if she can keep her true identity hidden within Arianyte's walls as the line between justice and revenge begins to blur. Every day she risks her life. Every day she wonders if she can keep the lies going and if she’s good enough to play this dangerous of a game, and every day she wonders if she’ll make it out of Arianyte’s clutches alive.

wow..

Let me just spend a minute talking about this book. I finished it and I was at a loss for words. This is not my normal reading but I devoured it. The audio is amazing. The writing is supreme. It will forever be one of my favorite reads. This is an amazing story of revenge, right and wrong, justice, and a girl who is so relatable. I could not have predicted how much I would love this book. It's been over a week and I am still infatuated with the story.

Narrator made this story even more amazing

I have to say Nikki Grey slayed it with this narration. First time I've ever listened to her narrate and she smashed it out of the park with this narration.

The Mark of Chaos and Creation by Arabella K. Federico is a unique fantasy journey. Dystopian Earth is in accord with the Arianyte to help Earth and its people survive. Throughout this story, we meet some key players who take you on a journey to save Earth and uncover the truth.

Karalevine Ruzz has an unknown origin, lost the only family she knew, and doesn’t realize the magnitude of the role she will play in the future of Arianyte and Earth.

There is a lot to uncover in this story and a lot of information in this fantasy novel. I found it easier to keep up with the audiobook versus reading because of how in-depth it was. At times I felt there was so much information and world-building, along with some repetitiveness, that it slowed the first half of the book down. Once everything was established and the main plot of the story picked up, the book moved at an enjoyable and exciting pace.

I feel like diving too deep would give away so many spoilers. The star seeds and their ringers are tasked by Arianyte to stop Deimos. As each of them works together, they soon realize there is so much more going on.

Arabella captured the loss Kara felt on so many levels in a way that the reader could feel it in their bones. The sadness and lost feelings don't go away. The trust that takes so many years and consistency from another person to build This FMC grew a lot in this story as a young adult, not only in maturity but also in her ability to believe in herself.

Ardelle, Jance, Pacey, and Malakyte are secondary characters that bring out the best and worst in Kara. I loved Pacey as the girl best friend. I hope we get to see that connection grow in book two. Jance leaves me with SO MANY QUESTIONS! Ardelle and Malakyte both put Kara through the spin cycle. I kinda don’t like either one of them very much. My goal is for Kara to save herself without a man.

This story is pure fantasy with hints of attraction. I am here for all of that. I cannot wait to see what Book 2 offers. Overall, if you like dystopian fantasy, then I recommend this book. I don’t think readers will be disappointed at all. It is a cliffhanger, so if you need to wait for book 2, you can grab them both when that releases. The main plot of the story isn’t completely done. I did guess the surprise at the end, but I blame that on my mystery-loving self, and I’m sure readers will love the little nugget Arabella leaves us with.

STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND LISTEN TO THIS AUDIOBOOK!

This story was an intense rollercoaster ride from beginning to end but the ending especially is fantastic! If you love an enemies to lovers storyline with crazy, narcissistic alien overlords, you’ll love this! The narrator did a great job although some of the accents could use some work. The characters are exciting and Pacey is especially loveable and badass! Overall, I loved The Mark of Chaos and Creation. I can’t wait for book 2!

Incredible story

I'm obsessed with this book and I cannot wait to dive into book two. Lovable characters, fantastic world building, and a villain who is chef's kiss.

SO GOOD

My heart was in a chokehold this whole time haha. In a good way. Is Kara a little unlikeable? sure. Does is help make her complex and drive the story? And make me want more? Also yes. Its so good, looking forward to book 2

Dynamic & Different!!

Torn apart friendships, Earth has entered a pact with Aliens, Trust NO ONE!!

Incredible read! The author has such a good way of giving us easy to follow information that depicts beautifully built world(s). Sailor moon vibes but make it also meets treasure planet type of way.

Earth was dying & so they entered a pact with aliens to give a certain level of control over things- including harvesting their own people?! Are the kidnappings on Earth part of some alien political schemes or is something worse going on right under their noses?? Bad ass MFC is also a tattoo artist (I thought that was unique and cool) and has some PTSD/SA trauma but I respect the hell out of how it was done. Survivors have those moments of little flashes or memories that jump at them in triggering or even peaceful moments, and the way the author did it didn't make the reader interrupt the current story & drag them through pages of trauma history. She gave enough to do it justice in that manner of speaking while sticking to the story line & still building our understanding of the characters.

The narrating is some of the best I've heard in a while and you can easily tell the humor, vibe in the room, whose talking & all that very easily with how it's read! Highly recommend especially when tired of fae stuff.

AMAZING!

The sci-fi fantasy story I didn't know I needed.
With the upcoming release of The Mark of Dreams and Darkness, I wanted to give this book a chance and I am so incredibly thankful I did.
I heard amazing things about the audiobook, so I listened to the audio and followed along in the paperback. The story alone was absolutely incredible, but the narrator somehow brought even more life to this creation. Cover to cover, this story is filled with fantastic world building, magic, aliens, and plenty of action packed scenes.
Terrific story telling from this author. Highly recommend!

Great listen

This was so unlike anything I’ve read or listened to before. It was a really cool blend of fantasy and science fiction with a lot of serious topics that make you think while also including some really exciting fantastical elements to keep things exciting for those of us who love far off worlds. The writing was great and really built as we got to know the characters. The setting was very unique and easy to visualize with the descriptions. I would absolutely recommend.
