Publisher's summary

The life of Elijah has gripped the thought and imagination of preachers and writers in all ages. His sudden appearance out of complete obscurity, his dramatic interventions in the national history of Israel, his miracles, his departure from the earth in a chariot of fire all serve to that end. He comes in like a tempest, who went out like a whirlwind, says Bishop Hall; the first we hear from him is an oath and a threat. Judgement and mercy were mingled throughout Elijah's astonishing career.

It is fitting that the lessons which may be drawn from Elijah's ministry should be presented afresh to our generation. History repeats itself. The wickedness and idolatry rampant in Ahab's reign live in our gross 21st century's profanities and corruptions. False prophets occupy large spheres of influence and truths dear to our evangelical forefathers have been downtrodden as the mire in the streets. A.W. Pink clearly felt called to the task of smiting the ungodliness of the age with the rod of God's anger while at the same time encouraging the faithful remnant. With these objects he undertakes the exposition of Elijah's ministry and applies it to the contemporary situation.

Elijah is misunderstood

I am not a scholar. But I recognize that Elijah was given the power to seal. To qualify for this power your will has to be inline with God’s will and you would not ask anything that would be contrary to God’s will and plan. This is not the man of God described in this text. While listening to this book I have gained a more secular view of Elijah and how scholars views him. I do not share their view and believe it is incorrect. How can a man be so righteous that he is carried away into heaven in a chariot but sin against God as much as is described in this text. I appreciate the text for the compilation of scriptures relating directly to Elijah but I draw my own conclusions that are not in agreement with the author. I believe that the author looks at Elijah as a man chosen by God and not the Man of God that Elijah is. This is my testimony of Elijah: he is a Man of God chosen to use God’s power on earth and his will was not contrary to God’s will from the time that he received the power to seal to the day he was taken to heaven by chariot to this day.

Excellent

This is the first book that I have listened to/read by AW Pink.

This was clearly a very deeply studied subject and such great insights were lifted from this rendition.

Solid study of the life and times of Elijah!

Excellent verse by verse study of Elijah. Each verse is commented on and put in perspective with New And Old testament confirmation verses. You have to have the right heart to listen to this. If you go into this thinking “I already know this story”. You will loose out on a blessing. I say this from my own experience or I guess you could call it pride. I learned a lot, I repeated several times. A "Profit Of God" stumbled and had weak period. Stand and Proclaim the word of God I reflected about my walk, a you should also.

Highly recommended.

Highly recommended to all who follow hard after God or desire to. This book both challenged and comforted me as I found it to be more about the nature of God and His absolute unfailing love and faithfulness than just about the life and times of Elijah, astonishing and turbulent as they were. Elijah knew his God and God knew Elijah, a profound relationship God still desires to have with each of us today. A.W. Pink is a superb scholar of the Word of God and writes with the depth and strength of someone who has researched well.
