Publisher's summary

A new kind of war has come to the continent of Ithos.

Airborne mage armies traverse enemy territory in utter secrecy. Vast city-liches conspire to influence events from afar, while city-states and archmages unleash strange new magics in a rapidly accelerating magical arms race. Nations and great powers that have remained quiescent for years have begun reaching out into the growing power vacuum. Magical superweapons and giant monsters are wielded by every side in a deadly tangle of alliances and factions, as each squabbling force spirals in towards their inevitable final conflict. At the center of that spiral lays the capital of the Havath Dominion, where a vengeful madman has proclaimed the precise date and time he will destroy the city.

The Last Echo will ring, and in its wake looms the threat of the Tongue Eater. Hugh and his friends are the only ones who can stop the ancient weapon, but the web of lies they've woven is fraying rapidly, and even their own allies have begun to question their mission. Monsters and archmages capable of leveling cities would stop at nothing to claim the Tongue Eater, leaving Hugh and the others with no one to trust.

And if they fail to stop the Tongue Eater, it could mean madness and death for the entire continent.

Truly a blessing and a work of art

While narration was good, narrator had limited range of voices. I had to back track oh who was talking, but aside from that, he has a great narrating voice. Story wise, this is amazing. Truly and deeply amazing. I am so happy to join this journey from start to finish. I will check out his patreon for additional stories, you should too. Thank you John Bierce for the great experience.

Some really good hidden Easter eggs for fans of scifi and fantasy.

I had to pause the book because I was laughing so hard at the L-space reference. Very good stuff.

If you’ve enjoyed the rest of the series, you will enjoy this book as well. I’ll pick up his next book when he puts it out.

reaching a bit

The pacing was off in the story. Like the author tried to turn a short story into a book. There just wasn't enough going on for all those words. We kept reading the same moment from multiple perspectives. I love this series, and I love where it ended and look forward to reading in this universe again. But this isn't a book I could repeat multiple times without skipping chapters like some of the previous ones. I know it's hard to tie up a series sometimes. I look forward to the energy I know the author can bring in his next works.
