Publisher's summary

The world is at war. Government titans use sports heroes known as Centauri for political influence.

Meanwhile, warriors from another time, known as Archides, are backed into a corner. The man who brought down their galaxy-spanning empire is taking advantage of the turmoil and threatens to conquer this world as he did their ancient home.

Oryan Jeckstadt is born a slave. His father, a disgraced general, raises him alone in the prison he doomed his son to. With the promise of securing his father’s freedom, Oryan is ripped from the Quarter and forced into the Centauri Games.

Eleysa Celeste has been orphaned. Loving grandparents do their best, but her anger is only flamed by the cruelty of the children around her. A local Centauri training facility owner takes her under his wing. She and Oryan are on a crash course that could decide the fate of billions.

Desperate for victory, the Archides try to recruit Oryan to their cause, yet his only desire is to protect the woman he loves and their young son.

Simply amazing

It’s a damn good book and I’m very picky. The story line is amazing. I laughed even shedded a few tears wish the had a series on ash though and his fam to keep the legacy going I mean as was trained by his grandfather and his father and his father’s best friend who raised him but never seen any kind of battle was disappointed by it. All around amazing books.

It was ok

Like most, I had a hard time with the narration. It was pretty flat and didn’t bring any characters to life. Some times it was hard to tell who was talking until they said their name. Scott has a ton of potential to be a great narrator, just not there yet. The story was pretty good, but I felt the first two books are almost separate stories. I could have listened to the games for all three books. It was all of a sudden everything changed and those characters I was invested in are just forgotten. I do have to say I didn’t finish the last book. I just got bored to be honest. I have 7 hours left and it really feels like the beginning of a whole new story and universe.

over all great book

I had trouble getting started into this book! great story line, but for me the whole book was off because of the narration. I've heard a lot of narrator's and I know of a few that just reads the story out better, they know how to catch you're attention. Scott just couldn't do that for me. but over all great book.

Wow!

I read tru this series on the weekend and was amazed of it. Some times its hard to start another book afterwords because the last book had another level of writing and character telling. This was amazing even if it was a bit dark and sometimes a bit obvious, But one of the better Military Sci-fi sagas you will get for this price!

Cool idea, but...

The story idea is cool. But it feels really rushed. Not much character development and the narrator is not very good at all. Could have been much better.

Well with the listen

Each book had me wondering what would come next which is a something I enjoy in books. The story arc builds with momentum but never gets boring. Starting out the story with simple beginnings the plot deepens and a whole world is opened up with intriguing back story that weaves characters together building to the climax that is Atonement. The main character is thrust into increasingly more complex plots that he confronts head on with hand to hand combat, advanced tech and even mental strength. Makes for a great story that covers it all, science, fighting, action, teleportation, political intrigue, love, family, bad guys, monsters, on and on. Highly recommended.
