Story
F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote many wonderful romantic and realistic short stories and a few incredible "on the edge" fantasy and supernatural stories. Although the story of "Benjamin Button" is quite different than the 2009 movie, the premise is the same - a man is born old and lives his life backwards! Fizgerald says he got the idea from Mark Twain's remark that it was a pity that the best part of life came at the beginning and the worst part at the end.

The First Men in the Moon, published in 1901, is the gripping tale of man's first journey to the moon, undertaken by one Mr. Bedford, a bankrupt businessman; and the eccentric scientist Mr. Cavor. Here they discover a sophisticated civilization, dominated by an insectlike race they call the Selenites. It is exciting, funny, profound and tragic by turns: a beautifully written scientific romance, in fact. It is read by Greg Wagland.

Story
"The Ghost Pirates" is a powerful account of a doomed and haunted ship on its last voyage, and of the terrible sea-devils (of quasi-human aspect, and perhaps the spirits of bygone buccaneers) that besiege it and finally drag it down to an unknown fate. With its command of maritime knowledge, and its clever selection of hints and incidents suggestive of latent horrors in nature, this book at times reaches enviable peaks of power.

Story
A disturbing tale of a young man's uncanny ability to remain both young and beautiful while descending into a life of heartless debauchery, The Picture of Dorian Gray was considered proof of both Wilde's genius and his perversion. Oscar Wilde's scandalous best seller of 1891 was one of the most damning pieces of evidence used against him in the trial that brought about his downfall.

Publisher's Summary
This is an audio enhanced version - with music and sound effects - of a book long hailed as one of the great science fiction classics, H.G. Wells' The Island of Doctor Moreau. It tells the story of Edward Prendick, a shipwreck survivor who is brought to an uncharted island where he encounters Doctor Moreau, a mad scientist bent on experimenting with human/animal hybrids.
Described by Wells himself as "an exercise in youthful blasphemy," this story is a disturbing and fascinating look into the moral responsibility of scientific experimentation, the ethics of meddling with the natural world and, ultimately, what it means to be human.

Another Great Classic Narrated by Kevin Theis!
Usually I start my reviews talking about the book, but Kevin Theis did another amazing job on this H.G. Wells story. The sound effects are perfectly used and not overdone. He adds such a theatrical element to the story telling. The emotions that I was supposed to feel were greatly heightened with his performance. If you are looking through the several H.G. Wells books and trying to find a good narrator look no further.
The Island of Doctor Moreau was a great listen. I don't think I enjoyed it as much as The Time Machine, but it is a very, very close second (and can see myself listening again in the future.) I was creeped out, surprised, and driven to want to find out the ending. I can see where several books and movies today have probably drawn inspiration from this unique Victorian story. I do not think I have read another Victorian novel close to it. If you enjoy Victorian novels and want to try something new, this is a great place to start.
I received a copy of this audiobook at my request, and I have voluntarily left this review.
