It's finally here

I've loved these stories since I was a teen. I found the first book at a garage sale I was dragged to and instantly fell in love. I've waited so long to hear them narrated so masterfully.

One Of the Best Fantasy Fictions Series of all Tim

I have a confession, I didn't get very far into chapter 1 before debating returning this book for credit. It is. in my opinion, a complete waste of time. BUT I fast forwarded to chapter 2 and discovered my favorite book put to audio. I read this saga right after reading Tolkiens LOR in the 1980s, and found it much more appealing. My copy of book one has been read so many times it is literally falling apart.
This audible version is an absolute delight. From chapter 2 on, I relished every second. It is beautifully performed and altho the order of the adventures is different from the paper backs, it certainly works. I am looking forward to book 2 for sure!
I SERIOUSLY considered taking a star off the overall rating due to chapter 1, but the rest of the book is just SO good, I cannot.

The “L” in “Elric” is not silent…

After waiting for YEARS (and giving up until Neil Gaiman stepped in (thank you!)) to get an audio version of the The *Elric* Saga, it made me more than little sad that NO ONE in the chain of production cared enough to correct the performer’s repeated mistake of mispronouncing “ELRIC” as “ERIC”…
While it was jarring, especially in some very key, almost cornerstone, moments of the narration, maybe I can pretend to myself that this is Terry Pratchett, quietly playing a little in-joke on his friend Neil… 🤷🏻‍♂️

Turned Me Into an Elric Fan

My first encounter with Elric, and I’m HOOKED.
Moorcock’s prose is great, and Elric is a hugely compelling anti-hero. A very appealing mixture of macabre, brooding, whimsical, and adventurous elements. I can easily see why these are considered classics. Also pretty wild that you can just grab this collection for free. Of the four books included, Fortress of the Pearl lacked the intensity and brisk pace of the other three and felt a little overlong but was still worth it; you can tell it comes from a different phase of the author’s career.

Samuel Roukin’s reading is hands-down the best audiobook performance I’ve ever heard, full stop. His flow is great and always clear, voice work just beautiful, every line read for maximum impact.

Truly classic sword and sorcery

brought back lots of memories enjoying the audiobook version of this classic tale of sword and sorcery The melancholy emperor is one of the most iconic figures in fantasy literature. It was great to adventure with him again!
