Publisher's Summary

From Brian Moylan, the writer of Vulture’s legendary Real Housewives recaps, a table-flipping, finger-pointing, halter-topping VIP journey through reality TV’s greatest saga....

In the spring of 2006, a new kind of show premiered on Bravo: The Real Housewives of Orange County. Its stars were tanned, taut, and bedazzled; their homes were echoey California villas; and their drama was gossip-fueled, wine-drenched, and absolutely exquisite. Fifteen seasons on, RHOC is an institution, along with The Real Housewives of New York, Atlanta, New Jersey, Miami, Potomac, and more. Over the years these ladies have done a lot more than lunch, launching thirty-one books, a cocktail line, two jail sentences, a couple supermodel daughters, Andy Cohen’s talk show career, 36 divorces, 14 albums, a White House party crash, and approximately one million memes.

Brian Moylan has been there through it all, in front of the screen and behind the scenes. The writer of Vulture’s beloved series recaps, he’s here to tell us the full story, from the inside scoop on every classic throwdown to the questions we’ve always wanted to know, like - what are the housewives really like off-camera? (The same.) How much money do they make? (Lots.) He has a lot to say about the legacy and fandom of a franchise that’s near and dear to his heart, and inextricable from pop culture today.

A must-have for any fan of real drama and fake [redacted], The Housewives is the definitive companion to an American TV treasure.

A Macmillan Audio production from Flatiron Books

"In The Housewives entertainment journalist and self-proclaimed Real Housewives anthropologist Moylan provides a complete history of the franchise, which thanks to interviews both on and off the record with members of the production team as well as current and former housewives is both painstakingly thorough and incredibly juicy...In the words of former Housewife Bethenny Frankel, Moylan truly “mentions it all.” (Booklist, starred review)

He mentioned it all and made it nice.

As a lifelong Housewives fan I was unsure how much I would actually learn from this book, especially once I learned Bravo had tried to stop any Housewives from contributing, but I was pleasantly surprised.

No juice

All fluff, no juice. A summary of the history of reality television I could have easily found on the internet, but a chapter dedicated to that was just nonsense. Where’s the drama? The behind the scenes gossip? Was hoping there would be some insider info about what we didn’t see on Scary Island, or more about Dina leaving season 2 of RHONJ. Or even the legal troubles the Manzo boys and Giudices had while on a trip in season 3. This book was a snooze.

Mention it all, indeed.

Very well researched and has all the juicy details a fan could want. I really enjoyed.I also really enjoy Brian Moylan, though the performance/ reading is surprisingly choppy.

Wrong narrator

I’m all for self narrating a book, but this one is making it hard for me to listen. I’m an admitted stickler for diction. The dropping of the “t” in every word is like nails on a chalkboard. “Beh in cour” (Bettencourt) “cer en” (certain) “sa” (sat) “tha” (that). I’m sure it’s me, not you. I just can’t.

Already Awful

This isn’t for me. I’m 30 minutes in and it’s really sounding like a gossip mag being read.

Almost a textbook.

This book contained alot of TV history and not as much "gossip". Not what I was expecting. The narration is very tough to follow in places. He tends to run over words, speaking too quickly for an audio book. I really wanted to love this, and listened to all of it, but I wish I had passed.

Who Let The Author Read This???

Mediocre story made really bad by the author horribly reading the book. He speaks so poorly, with such bad cadence, pronunciation, and diction, you can barely understand him at times. His voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Just painful. He also thinks that he's funny and all of his jokes just fall flat.

Interesting info but irritating narration

I liked the "behind the scenes" info but almost couldn't finish because of the poor narration. The author/narrator seems to be reading with a sinus problem. As a result, his words are poorly pronounced and has the timber of a dentist's drill.

Fun!

Overall, a fun listen; however, no real tea spilled that most fans of The Real Housewives don’t already know. I did enjoy hearing about the selection and production process though.

I saw another review stating that the narration was very choppy, it is, but, after the first couple of chapters, I found Brian’s affect most charming!

Narration - Intolerable

Some interesting behind-the-scenes insights.

Also includes factual errors and mispronunciations of the names of key associated figures.

The narration is amateurish and rushed. The author seemed unfamiliar with his own work.

In summary, I would not recommend this title as an audio book. It has value in print.

Loved this book!

Loved this book! I’m a huge housewives fan but don’t have anyone I know to talk about it with, so this felt like one big gossip session!

Perfect for die hard fans!

It’s such a light hearted and easy read. It’s a lot of fun as well as being very well researched.
I will say, there’s not a huge amount of tea or new info on specific housewives, but I was hooked the whole way through.

Definitely recommend for fellow fans, primarily if you’ve seen a few different franchises!

You will know everything in the book!!

I went into This book being excited. But was very disappointed. If you are a housewives fan you will know pretty much everything all ready! coz I was paying for the book I thought I would learn new things! But you learn nothing new. Also you can tell that RHONY is his favourite. Which was highly annoying, coz he kept focusing on this show and trying to make out like it’s the best. Brian should had a non-biased opinion. To much rhony talk, wanted to know more about all the shows. Also the facts aren’t correct he says the real housewives of Sydney aired in 2019. But with a simple google check you would know it aired in 2017… little thinks like that need to be correct if your charging such a high price for the book. Overall the book is about Brian talking bout his favourites shows not a behind the scenes look, like the book promised. Such a bummer coz I was excited for this!
