THE HOME

In the early '60s, in a seemingly more "innocent" time, a group of teenagers were lured into a supposedly haunted house. The place on Sycamore Lane has a morbid history, but that's just hearsay and rumor, isn't it?

THE HOME

His name was Robbie Miller, and he was a killer. Driven mad by the THING that lived in The Home, he now exists to serve. He'll do whatever the creature that calls itself Mr. Friendlyman asks . . . He'll even become a ghost . . .

THE HOME

Now, decades later and much older, they are returning to The Home. A retired fantasy writer, A doting grandfather, and a mysterious old woman who seems to know things she should not . . .

THE HOME

A dark storm is brewing over this wicked house. A storm that will break down the very fabric of reality. A storm that demands blood and sacrifice, and feeds on the ghosts of anyone who dies within it's premises.

I bought this book because of all of the hype about it being scary. I'm sorry to say that I wasn't scared. It started out strong, but it got to the point where the gore was gratuitous and didn't actually help further the story. Maybe there's something wrong with me but there were times the gore made me giggle because it was just silly and gross for the point of being gross. The transitions were clunky and at times hard to follow, ie did this happen in the past, is this current time for the characters... Then it kind of ended, it was drawn out and I had hoped there would be an actual build up to something but... I was looking for the "twists" and strong ending, instead it was predictable. It was like the author was trying to channel King, HP Lovecraft, and Poe. As I was listening I kept thinking, "This is quite similar to IT" and not as well done. I'm sorry as I'm sure I'm an outlier in this, I just expected more. I listened to the whole story, I wish I hadn't and instead returned it for a credit refund.

I love the narrator! She did amazing telling the story. There should definitely be another book like this about Mr friendly man….. awesome book

The twist at the end is amazing and spine tingling!

This story had me interested from the start. Heavy influences by Stephen King’s It, Tolkien, Lovecraft and a little Dungeons and Dragons sprinkled in. Nicely descriptive gore. You do catch on about half through but the ending is still worth the listen.

Quite the Amalgamation…
