THE HOME

In the early '60s, in a seemingly more "innocent" time, a group of teenagers were lured into a supposedly haunted house. The place on Sycamore Lane has a morbid history, but that's just hearsay and rumor, isn't it?

THE HOME

His name was Robbie Miller, and he was a killer. Driven mad by the THING that lived in The Home, he now exists to serve. He'll do whatever the creature that calls itself Mr. Friendlyman asks . . . He'll even become a ghost . . .

THE HOME

Now, decades later and much older, they are returning to The Home. A retired fantasy writer, A doting grandfather, and a mysterious old woman who seems to know things she should not . . .

THE HOME

A dark storm is brewing over this wicked house. A storm that will break down the very fabric of reality. A storm that demands blood and sacrifice, and feeds on the ghosts of anyone who dies within it's premises.

I love the narrator! She did amazing telling the story. There should definitely be another book like this about Mr friendly man….. awesome book

The twist at the end is amazing and spine tingling!

I bought this book because of all of the hype about it being scary. I'm sorry to say that I wasn't scared. It started out strong, but it got to the point where the gore was gratuitous and didn't actually help further the story. Maybe there's something wrong with me but there were times the gore made me giggle because it was just silly and gross for the point of being gross. The transitions were clunky and at times hard to follow, ie did this happen in the past, is this current time for the characters... Then it kind of ended, it was drawn out and I had hoped there would be an actual build up to something but... I was looking for the "twists" and strong ending, instead it was predictable. It was like the author was trying to channel King, HP Lovecraft, and Poe. As I was listening I kept thinking, "This is quite similar to IT" and not as well done. I'm sorry as I'm sure I'm an outlier in this, I just expected more. I listened to the whole story, I wish I hadn't and instead returned it for a credit refund.

Truly some of Judith's best work that earned her the 1# spot of my favorite horror author. Phenomenal narration, Amazing story. Mr.FriendlyMan easily rivals Pennywise in just how unsettling of a monster he is.

Praise judith and her ghosts!

The narration is fine. I read the author writes splatter-punk, but it was indicated this story was not that. I am not a fan of that genre. It may not be splatter, but it has enough of a lean in that direction to put me off. Way too much needless gore and just gross imagery. I was intrigued in the beginning with Mr. Friendlyman. Great, creepy character but by the end it was just not scary. The ending seemed rushed and drawn out at the same time.

Not for me

The story kept me entertained. Narrator was great. This is the second Judith Sonnet book I’ve read, and I really like her style.

The first 25% of the book seems so weird and random and the. It starts coming together. When I tell you the ending had me gasping for air!!!!

This did not go how I expected!!!

This was an incredible fusion of "It" and Judith Sonnet's short story magic. The only downside is I think the main characters were still very much strangers to the reader by the end of the book, but overall this was an absolute delight--and a story I think that will reach more casual horror fans that would normally wilt at Judith's usual attention to gore and depravity.

Simply Fantastic

A story of nostalgia, teens, senior citizens, a haunted house, a creepy small town, secrets, and the power of friendships that last through decades.
Much of the story reads like a haunted house tale. With likable characters with interesting backstories. It turned into a bit of a jumbled gore fest near the end, but I didn't mind overall because I enjoyed the journey. The story didn't end quite the way I had hoped, but few good stories actually do. Definitely worth the Reed.
Also excellent narration with a creepy voice mashup for the villains.

"What are friends for? Friends are for grave robbing."
