Publisher's Summary

In this short, easy-to-listen fable, best-selling author Mark Miller reveals five habits that underlie leadership character and that determine a leader's success - and he teaches leaders how to develop these habits.

Like Miller's previous books, this one follows the life, learning, and influence of Debbie Bruster. Here she finds herself mentoring Blake Brown, the son of her former mentor. Rather than answer Blake's questions about leadership directly, Debbie introduces him to other leaders, each of whom shares a unique perspective on what really makes a leader successful. As Blake puts the pieces together, he discovers his problem is not one of skills but of character - that leadership is more about the heart of the leader than the head or hands. In fact, Miller summarized these traits with the acronym HEART: Hunger for Wisdom, Expect the Best, Accept Responsibility, Respond with Courage, and Think Others First.

With the help of his new friends and mentors, Blake is able to build a plan to transform his heart. The good news is that leadership is not just the purview of the few - it is within reach for millions of aspiring leaders around the world.

This book is the road map they need to get their lives and careers on track.

A good introduction to servant leadership

This book is a good intro to servant leadership for someone new to the concept. I read this because it was recommended to me however the dialogue is flat, dry and unrealistic. While it did explain the principles of servant leadership and how it changes people, it was hard to make a connection to the main “character” because the conversation in which the different aspects of SL were explained felt generic and dumbed down. Not my favorite but I can see how it would be helpful to some.

Simple but interesting.

It was quite rudimentary. But it does have its insight. This book is for you if you wish to get back to the basics.

This book deepened my perspective on leadership

Similar to the Phoenix Project, I loved how the authors used the art of story telling to explain the core elements of effective leadership. Great listen!

The missing Keys!!

I must say this book is what I personally needed. like Brad I was told early on that I will be a good leader and somewhere down the line I got derailed, or lost . After listening to this book I believe I have found the missing keys to getting back on track. I going to get the hard copy to read and take notes. Thank you for writing this book!

Good book for Leadership Journey

Read this book as part of my journey in trying to cultivate more of a leader within myself. The story was easily digestible and I like how it was basically summarized at the end so I could use that chapter to write a little cheat sheet for myself. all in all I would recommend this book to emerging leaders and leaders who are leading selfishly right now to make some tweaks to better your life and the lives of those around you. 3. Aspiring to Leadership

I received the book to read from employer as part of an Aspiring to Leadership Journey. The author simplifies the steps needed to aquire the 5 levels of becoming a leader. It is not about the outcome but instead it is about the journey. Where is your heart?
