DRAMATIZATION - This audiobook has been updated to a dramatized adaptation

After the loss of a child along with a slew of agonizing misfortunes, Nick and Jess decide to end their lives. Unable to cope with the misery that fills their days, they commit one last act together and die in loving relief.

But when Nick wakes up, he soon realizes that death isn't the gentle darkness he expected. Panicked and horrified, he struggles to understand the twisted abominations and hellish world he's now trapped in.

Driven by desperation and a sudden will to survive, he sets out to find Jess and is unable to cope with the thought of her having to suffer through the terrors this new reality holds.

But nothing could prepare him for the nightmares he found...nothing could prepare him for The Black Farm.

Waited and waited for an ending that could make up for a bad novel, but that didn’t happen. Of course, I can’t return it because I listened to the whole thing. I think I should be commended for the time I wasted listening to a book that started off good enough to make you believe it’s going to return to good, but just got worse and more jumbled as it went on. I’m sure people abused the ability to return books, but not letting you return a book you completed is ridiculous. I’m ADHD and OCD, NOT completing a book, no matter how terrible it might be, is IMPOSSIBLE for me. I’ve listened to some mediocre books that had an ending so great that it made the rest of the book terrific. I’ve listened to some books that are great throughout and the ending ruined the whole thing. My point is, the ending can often be the decider to good or bad. So not being able to return a completed bad book is disappointing. Think: Where The Crawdads Sing, mediocre story, terrific ending that made the whole thing great. Just my opinion.

Worth a return for credit.

This is the first book I've read/listened to by Elias Witherow. Mostly that's because I'm a hopeless romantic and that is my go to read/listen. I have been enjoying some different genres lately, so decided to request this audiobook. If you are a horror genre junkie, you may actually five star this story. But I've learned that the horror part is not my thing. A few warnings if you don’t want it in your read/listen is suicide, torture, dismemberment, rape, cannibalism, and just grossness. Total and complete grossness. I cringed so often. It's been a long time since I've dipped my toe into horror, in books or movies, and it's been a reminder that it's not my thing.

But I did like that there was a journey. A difficult journey too. One that, I think, didn't end just because the book did. I have mixed feelings about the message that life is better than death by suicide because of the what happens after death. But it makes one pause and think. And the love Nick had for Jess, with his choice to do what he needed to save her regardlessof how it impacted him, is why I'm giving it 3.5 stars. It fed this romantic's heart. I had to know how this would end. Perfect end.

Tom Jordan is an excellent narrator. I loved his voice. He is easy to listen to for a longer period of time. His performance was perfection. I hope he does more narration than the horror genre. I'll be looking up more from him if so.

I have been waiting on this audiobook for awhile and I it was everything I could have hoped for and more! This is a very dark story but if you are into that kind of thing then this story gives it all! The performance of the narrator was outstanding! Definitely my favorite horror audiobook so far!

Superb!

I cannot say enough great things about The Black Farm, it may be my new favorite book.

Let me start by saying that this book is graphically violent, disturbing, bleak, grotesque, and includes some pretty intense scenes of SA. It is not a light-hearted jaunt. This novel is a gauntlet of despair and brutality. You have been warned.

The Black Farm is the story of Nick and Jess, who have committed suicide after a tragedy shatters their world. What they'd hoped would be a release from their despair, a slip into the void where they would no longer be burdened by existence, turned out to be a journey into a nightmare beyond any pain and suffering they could have ever imagined in life. As soon as Nick wakes up after his death, he's introduced to the horrific new world he'll occupy for eternity. Ruled by a malevolent pseudo-god, The Pig, who yearns for the power of creation; the farm is a twisted and corrupted imitation of earth inhabited by violent, lustful, and malicious spawn of the swine. A black-hole sun hovers in the permanent twilight sky, dripping ichor into a diseased ocean where towering giants roam to scoop up any humans who attempt to escape. There are fields of spikes where bodies are impaled until they bleed out or starve to death, one of the more merciful ways to meet your end on the farm. But even if you die here, your reprieve is brief, as you will be reborn elsewhere in this realm to begin your suffering fight for survival again. Nick will have to face these horrors and so much more in order to find Jess, and when he does, he'll do anything to get them both out of the farm, even if it means abandoning what is left of his humanity.

Elias Witherow does an amazing job building this world in all its vivid brutality and the performance by Tom Jordan perfectly brings this bleak world to life. There is a sequel, Return to The Black Farm, that is getting an audiobook release soon and I cannot wait to give it a read.

P.S.- If you're a fan of Brom, specifically Lost Gods, you'll love The Black Farm.

Brutal dark fantasy horror at its best

This is unlike anything I’ve read. It takes the concept of purgatory to a terrifying new level.

Still trying to absorb the horror
