About this listen

From USA Today bestselling author Margot Hunt comes the chilling tale of what happens when a family besieged by a storm must play host to uninvited guests.

When a Category 5 hurricane is poised to hit their coastal Florida town, the Davies family takes refuge in their waterfront manse. Marlowe, Lee, and their teenage twins invite their close friends to wait out the storm in comfort and style.

Uninvited are the three strangers who dock on the family’s shore right before the storm descends. Brothers Jason and Bo—and Bo’s girlfriend, Darcy—are a charming, helpful trio in need of a safe haven that the family is only too happy to provide.

But as the storm outside grows more threatening, so does the tension in the house.

Soon, the lines between family, friends, and strangers blur. Danger mounts with every pointed finger and broken confidence, and long-held secrets are revealed one after another until only one truth remains: not everyone is going to make it out alive.

Eh

I can’t tell if the narrator made this book dull, or if it was actually flat. There were several twists, but the narrator made it hard to get excited.

Predictable

I enjoyed the narration but every part of the story could be predicted in the first few chapters.

Exciting Read

This book is a great story that i couldn’t stop listening to because I had to find out what was going to happen next. I have read/listened to a few books by this author but this is definitely my favorite. Narration was good and brought the characters to life. Lots of characters in the book so it helped having several different narrators.

NEW FLORIDIAN MYSTERY....

I have always loved Margot's work ever since I came across her work with Buried Deep. This book was a great spin on her other mystery Novellas. I loved the story, the slow unveiling of the whole mystery, and the well-timed murders that lead up to the end of our antagonist Bo. And the epilogue! ties up everything! The betrayals, senses of entitlement, the lies, the crumpling of reality as is! Beautiful story!

Very entertaining!

This was an entertaining book where the author did a good shop separating the characters and being memorable. The storyline flowed nicely and I loved the narrators. This book is about a house on the water, a hurricane, good people and bad people and deception.

Keeps you on the edge of your seat!

Storyline was exciting and not predictable. Characters likable or relatable. Liked having multiple readers doing the different voices. It was much easier to immerse myself in the story with a great storyline and realistic varied voices. Highly recommend!

Meh

I was so excited to listen to The Guests by Margot Hunt because 1) I absolutely loved Best Friends Forever, and 2) being from Florida myself, I am all too familiar with hurricanes. However, this book pales in comparison.
First, the attitudes toward an approaching Category 5 storm were NOT realistic. No one with any experience dealing with hurricanes would say "the house is well built, we'll be fine!" Makes me think the author didn't do much research at all on the type of destruction Category 4-5 storms cause.
Secondly, as another review mentioned, the CONSTANT "June said.. Tom said.. Lee said" got extremely annoying pretty quickly.
Lastly, whoever narrated Felix's part honestly has no business doing audiobooks. His voice was so strange it bordered on creepy and after a few "Felix" chapters, I just skipped over them entirely.
It wasn't a terrible listen overall, but I would be extremely hesitant to recommend this title a friend.

Not believable

This story started off scary and disturbing but quickly progressed to unbelievable. It just got worse as it progressed. Too many elements seemed canned, The insertion of the teen black romantic love interest as the hero seemed particularly out of place considering the overall story, a diversity tool. The narration was both good and bad. Overall disappointing and predictable.
