New York Times bestselling author Cathy Maxwell continues her dazzling series, The Brides of Wishmore

He had a noose around his neck and a price on his head . . .

Sabrina Davidson, dutiful daughter, avowed spinster, thought she'd secured a place for herself in Aberfeldy society— until her hard-earned acceptance of her fate is challenged by the arrival of Cormac Enright, earl of Ballin, trained physician, soldier of fortune, and convicted felon.

A prim and proper miss was the last thing he needed . . .

Mac is determined to clear his name, but first he has to find the man whose testimony sentenced him to a hangman's noose. Of course, Robert Davidson is missing and protecting Mac is Davidson's daughter, the most entrancing, frustrating, beguiling, stubborn woman Mac has ever met.

And it doesn't help that he has already tasted her kisses. Or that he has found in her a passion for life and adventure to rival his own.

Mac has turned Sabrina's world inside out—but what will happen when he leaves?

Or will the Groom Say Yes?

I've just started reading books by Cathy Maxwell and find that she writes an interesting story - not these vapid romance novels so many write! This one starts in a prison with a vicar that helps an innocent Irish man to escape! It goes on from there with the escaped prisoner trying to find out who and why he was targeted? He has help from a woman and her future unwanted (at first) stepmother. It's a good mystery with some romance.

A bit of a mystery!

What did you love best about The Groom Says Yes?

The heroine Sabrina was fantastic. I wish all authors would write a strong, smart and evolved character. I really liked that she was introspective and grew as a person through her interaction with other characters. It is great to experience that kind of personal growth that moves/changes a character. The events of her life were impactful and caused her to revise her understanding of herself. It was a great lesson, as so many of her issues ( especially when a woman puts everyone else first and herself last) resonated strongly with me.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved both the H/H. They were resilient people , with flaws and strengths. They used their intelligence to solve problems and were true to their characters.
The best part of this story was no silly misunderstandings. If there was an issue, either Sabrina or Mac would get to it. I loved that they talked things out. These are two character I wish I could meet in real life.

Which character – as performed by Mary Jane Wells – was your favorite?

I love MJ. Wells. I think the male characters were wonderful. Each had a nuanced difference . She is a great narrator and has a way of delivering the dialogue that makes the words seem so funny. I found myself laughing out loud.

Any additional comments?

This book had so much. An exciting sub-plot. A hero on the run. A heroine to be admired. fireplace pokers used like swords. A priest getting shot and a murder plot thwarted. The story moved so fast and did not have a lot of filler. This made the book a pleasure. I kept checking how much was left, as I did not want it to end, but it was the correct length.

Excellent story and performance
