Fun fantasy book with a good message and ending

The author has great character development and humor. This book is delightful!! This was such a fun listen, I was hooked from the beginning.

This was a great story for adults and teens, one that can be listened to with older children.

A Great, Fun Rampus

The thing I love best about Caitlin Rozakis is her magical blend of lively action, fun humor, and character introspection. This is the second book of hers that, while enjoying the beautifully planned plot development, I also enjoy the dives into the characters psyches where she explores ideas of unworthiness, self-recrimination, and how to find the trail out of the pattern of negative emotions. Beautifully written with not a whiff of preachiness or judgement in sight - I strongly recommend this book!

It's not Dreadful...

When I say it's not Dreadful, I mean both that this book isn't terrible, but it also isn't the delightful, imaginative, hilarious satire that is Rozakis' first book.

Dreadful starts off with a bang (literally), while Grimoire Grammar School PTA just kind of plods aimlessly while the author painstakingly world builds. Unfortunately, that world is the one of tedious minutiae that is grade school PTA.

At times, the book seems to want to be a family drama that happens to be set in a magical world. But the blurb promises a mystery or adventure that really doesn't start until about 4/5 of the way through the book, when we've spent about 8 hours listening to the protagonist overthink some of the world's lowest stakes.

Unlike the protagonist of Dreadful, whose character growth comes from continuous introspection, the main character of GGSPTA has her sense of self entirely shaped by external forces. Even when she finally stands up for herself, it's out of necessity rooted in maternal instinct.

Compared to the author’s first book, this just isn’t very fun or interesting.
