A librarian with a knack for solving murders realizes there is something decidedly supernatural afoot in her little town in this cozy fantasy mystery.

Librarian Sherry Pinkwhistle keeps finding bodies—and solving murders. But she's concerned by just how many killers she's had to track down in her quaint village. None of her neighbors seem surprised by the rising body count...but Sherry is becoming convinced that whatever has been causing these deaths is unnatural.

When someone close to Sherry ends up dead, and her cat, Lord Thomas Crowell, becomes possessed by what seems to be an ancient demon, Sherry begins to think she’s going to need to become an exorcist as well as an amateur sleuth. With the help of her town's new priest, and an assortment of friends who dub themselves the "Demon-Hunting Society," Sherry will have to solve the murder and get rid of a demon.

This riotous mix of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Murder, She Wrote is a lesson for demons and murderers alike: Never mess with a librarian.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Waggoner makes nimble and entertaining use of cozy mystery tropes while also constructing Winesap’s larger supernatural conflict with careful attention to detail. Meanwhile, plentiful humor and endearing budding friendships give the story heart. Fantasy fans who also watched Murder, She Wrote and wondered about the abnormally high murder rate in Cabot Cove will especially want to check this one out."—Publishers Weekly

“Waggoner melds lush imagery, humor, and a surprise twist into a contemporary paranormal mystery that will have readers clamoring for more of Sherry the librarian.”—Booklist (starred review)

“Imagine if Jessica Fletcher worked in a village library and found herself fighting a demonic murderer with an ironic sense of humour, and you have a sense of how original, funny and fantastical this book is. I laughed my way through this smart, warm-hearted cozy mystery and I know readers will too.”—Freya Sampson, USA Today bestselling author of Nosy Neighbors

Cozy Fun

Well, I listened to the entire book thinking it was going to be about demon hunting… mmm not really. Then I thought it was going to be about a murder mystery… not really. A talking cat… nope. T group of tightly knit friends who do sleuthing.. nu’uh.
Basically apparently it’s an old lady ( what is that? You wouldn’t know by her actions it manners that she was an old lady) who really seems to be stuck on herself. And doesn’t actually realize how she is weakly the root cause of the murders… very disjointed. 2 dimensional characters. Too many characters.
To be fair… if she had made this five books and made the characters multi faceted and put some real work into developing the demon and what is supposed to be a possession, it could be really good. Charlotte is an amazing character, not much of her. The priests twin HAPPENS to know the dead man ( her boyfriend) ‘s kid… and happens to just be there… too much stuff squeezed into too short of a book.

The narration is good. The story has potential. But it’s very disjointed…

I literally has no idea what was going on…

Five stars for the wonderful performance. Whoever picked the narrator was spot on. She was delightful, as were the characters in this story. Not cliched, full of surprises and a kind ending. I’m looking forward to more.

Well-Plotted Fun

Cozy characters. And clearly inspired by Agatha Christie Ms Marple series. Perfect read with coffee, a demonic cat, and snuggly blanket

The Village Library Demon-Hunting Society is a cozy paranormal mystery read featuring Sherry who tries to solve her sort of boyfriend Allan’s murder. This was a perfect mix of everything I love — cozy and quirky old lady detective mystery with a dash of paranormal, possessed talking cats. I enjoyed the overall plot and mystery as a whole. I especially enjoyed when Sherry brought everyone together to do the big reveal. Prior to that point, I wasn’t sure who was responsible, so it was fun seeing all the clues laid out. I’m a big fantasy/paranormal lover, and I loved the little dashes of that in the story. It wasn’t overly heavy, but the paranormal elements were used well. I read this via audiobook and felt that Cindy Piller was a great choice. She fit perfectly for how I envisioned Sherry to sound with a more mature voice. I also felt she did well to embody Sherry while also keeping my attention throughout the book.

The story seems to be all over the place! I can’t keep up! It starts in the middle and never catches up. I just didn’t like it. It came highly recommended and I’m not sure why.

First, I liked the book. The narrator was absolutely incredible and made the book worth the listen in my opinion.
I do think the description was misleading, it says a mix of buffy and murder she wrote but in reality it was more of a Murder She Wrote and Matlock or Clue, not as much demon action you would expect from the title and description. Not really any "society" development and the ending was... interesting.
Again, I think it is worth the read, I enjoyed the writing and main characters inner thoughts. I enjoyed it for a quick fall read.

it was an experience for sure

I just think the ending was weird. I don't want to give anything away, but I just think there could have been a better reason for the demon to want to do what it did...

Odd ending.
