Publisher's Summary

Bookshop owner Penelope Thornton-McClure and her gumshoe ghost team up to solve the stunning mystery at the heart of a so-called "madwoman's" self-portrait in this all-new installment from New York Times best-selling author Cleo Coyle.

While gathering a collection of vintage book cover paintings for a special event in her quaint Rhode Island bookshop, Penelope discovers a spooky portrait of a beautiful woman, one who supposedly went mad, according to town gossip. Seymour, the local mailman, falls in love with the haunting image and buys the picture, refusing to part with it, even as fatal accidents befall those around it. Is the canvas cursed? Or is something more sinister at work?

For answers, Pen turns to an otherworldly source: Jack Shepard, PI. Back in the 1940s, Jack cracked a case of a killer cover artist, and (to Pen's relief) his spirit is willing to help her solve this mystery, even if he and his license did expire decades ago.

Please go back to the prior narrators!!

The story is good but after becoming accustomed to the narration of shaffer/burns listening to Odom was like listening to nails on a chalkboard. Traci Odom makes Penelope sound like she's in her late 50's, her aunt sounds like she's a 90 year old chain smoker and Jack is a total mismatch.

loved it!

it was good to listen to another book in this series. I liked the 2 narrators who originally read it. But Traci Odom did an excellent job. Loved her voice, did a great job on the characters. Hope the author writes more books in this series

Always a terrific whodunit!!

As a fan of all works by Cleo Coyle, this may be the best Haunted Bookshop Mystery yet!

Jack is back.. and in fine form.

The performance by Traci Odom is wonderful. She nailed the characters' voices and personalities!

Great series!

I love this series! Never predictable, a good blend of mystery and comedy. Traci Odom is one of the best audiobook narrators in the business.

Another excellent book!

Cleo Coyle once again did a great job with this book/series. I was totally engaged from beginning to end!!The only suggestion I have is that it would be helpful to use the same narrator with all books in the same Series.
If you’re three books into the next (of five ) book series, it helps the (audiobook) customer to recognize characters based on familiar dialect.

It was ok.

I think I really just miss Caroline Shaffer & Traber Burns. It was not my favorite of the series but it wasn’t bad either. If there is another one to follow maybe we can get the original narrators.

VERY DISSAPOINTING

The story was overall not bad and was very compatible with the other Haunted Bookshop mysteries but the performance and the narration were terrible. There was not enough differences in the character voices for you to be able to keep up with who was speaking. Big mistake to change narrators and only have one instead of two. Had I realized the narrator was different I probably would not have purchased this book.

changes

It took me several chapters to get use to the new voice. But it turned out pretty good.

Disappointed!

Story was good but from the moment this person began to read the voices were off. While I enjoyed the story I can’t listen to another minutes of this woman butcher these characters for me.
I won’t be buying another book from this collection if the original readers aren’t reading the story… it was so painful to listen too.
