Not at all what I expected

Excellent , informative , and unbelievably relevant story! I learned so much while being entertained, and Julia Whelan is one of my favorite narrators of all time and is perfectly suited for this book. I highly recommend this book (and be sure to listen to the interview at the end) !

Spectacular writing

That was one of my favorite books, the writing and fictional history was spectacular. Highly recommend listening to this book.

Jaw-dropping
Jarring
Jolting
Shocking

I gasped, cried, fumed!
Screamed and rooted for these people!!

After listening to this, you will look at people differently.
ALL PEOPLE!!

And that ending. I'm still sobbing!! 😥😥😥

As usual, Julia Whalen is absolutely amazing. She really outdid herself with this one.

Captivating start to finish

Absolutely loved the story line and performance was top notch. Had trouble putting this one down. The characters were complex and continually intriguing, I felt like I learned a lot about that time period and the struggles these people faced. It was very eye opening and thought provoking on many deeper levels.

Great story but...

The interview with the author at the end got political and I felt manipulated and uncomfortable. What is her end game?

Strong start, gets a little flat in the last bit

I loved the beginning of this. The characters were well constructed. The narration was alright, it suited the text. I didn’t care for about the last 1/3rd of the book. I found it got a little redundant and I didn’t care for the direction the author took the characters and the ending.

Very moving story

Perfect story about the resilience of the human spirit, especially during this pandemic. It is a story of hope.

Four Winds

This book kept me enthralled for the four or five days I snatched time to listen to it. The Great Alone was the book that introduced me to Kristin Hannah, after The Nightingale failed to keep my interest. Wonderful story telling.

Highly recommend, author and narrator are great!

This is a great read of injustices and survival in the hardest of times, I felt like I was right there with them. Unpredictable and inspiring all the way through.
