The Grey sisters had only each other when their mother died years ago. Their father provided for them physically on Water's Edge, the ranch that had been in their family for three generations, each of them however, longed for their father's love.

Winona, the oldest, knew early on that she could never get it. An overweight dreamer and reader, she didn't exhibit the kinds of talents and strengths her father valued.

Vivi Anne, the youngest, had those things. And it was Vivi Anne who only ever saw a glimmer of their father's approval.

When Vivi Anne makes a fateful decision to follow her heart, rather than take the route of a dutiful daughter, events are set in motion that will test the love and loyalties of the Grey sisters.

With breathtaking pace and penetrating insight, Kristin Hannah's True Colors is a novel about sisters, vengeance, rivalry, betrayal - and ultimately, what it truly means to be a family.

This book was exceptional. It was a great story of three very different sisters growing up together. Great Listen!

If you could sum up True Colors in three words, what would they be?

reader makes story.

What other book might you compare True Colors to and why?

can't think of one.

What does Sandra Burr bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

she makes the characters alive and easy to distinguish by voice change.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Hated Winona in the beginning of the book, but understood more as the story unfolded

Any additional comments?

Not as good as her other book "The Nightingale" but was worth the read.

Love the reader

This was a story that never seemed to end. The sisters went back and forth between being close-knit and bitter enemies for far too long. I could not figure out if the nasty father figure was going to be implicated in wrong-doing or was just an emotional dwarf that added little to the story. The main character vacilated between being a whiny, self-pitying jerk and a strong protagonist for herself and her nephew. And I won't even bother about the silliness of all of the love angles for each of the sisters.

This is the first book of Kristin Hannah I have been disappointed with. Firefly Lane was wonderful. Winter's Garden was even better!! Mystic Lake has more solid literary interest than this book. I am not giving up on Hannah as her strong female characters make her a worthwhile author.

I almost skipped this one because of some of the reviews regarding the narration. While I’ll admit that the narrator for this Kristin Hannah novel wasn’t amazing, I loved the story regardless. In typical Hannah fashion, she kept me hooked throughout. Give it a chance!

Great story and listen, despite the subpar narration.

I love Kristen Hannah's writing! This story is so powerful. You're rooting for each one of these characters full heartedly. Very glad it has a happy ending!

Consumed my life in the best way!

…like it made me feel, is a book worth listening to. I honestly didn’t really even realize I’d been so invested until the moments when I was in tears. It moved me in a subtle but powerful way. I agree it was predictable to a certain extent but even if I knew some of the next major ideas, I never knew exactly how everything would unfold. I got used to the narrator and have heard her before so that didn’t bother me. I clearly knew who was who when I needed to and that works for me. I don’t understand some of the other reviews. If you’re looking for suspense and twists and turns you don’t expect, read a mystery. If you’re looking for a “feel good” based around family and all the horrible and beautiful things that can mean, then I highly recommend this book.

A book that makes someone feel…

Loved the audio book. Definitely recommend. Well worth the listen. It had heartache, love and some laughs.

Loved it.

Not as good as other Kristen Hanna books, but worth the time. I agree with other reviewers about the narrator. The audio of the men’s voices took a while to get used to—very high-pitched and fake-sounding. But a rewarding ending.

Glad I stuck with it
