Step into the fold. It's perfectly safe.
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.
Far out in the California desert, a team of DARPA scientists has invented a device they affectionately call the Albuquerque Door. Using a cryptic computer equation and magnetic fields to "fold" dimensions, it shrinks distances so a traveler can travel hundreds of feet with a single step. The invention promises to make mankind's dreams of teleportation a reality. And, the scientists insist, traveling through the door is completely safe. Yet evidence is mounting that this miraculous machine isn't quite what it seems - and that its creators are harboring a dangerous secret.
As his investigations draw him deeper into the puzzle, Mike begins to fear there's only one answer that makes sense. And if he's right, it may be only a matter of time before the project destroys...everything. A cunningly inventive mystery featuring a hero worthy of Sherlock Holmes and a terrifying final twist you'll never see coming, The Fold is that rarest of things: a genuine pause-resister science-fiction thriller. Step inside its audio and learn why author Peter Clines has already won legions of loyal fans.

Featured Article: The top 100 series of all time
The feeling of discovering that your favorite new listen is actually the start of a series is euphoric. That you can immediately hit play and re-enter a beloved new world, or love story, or era from history is a gift to the devoted listener. But how to pick just 100 of these unique and immersive listening journeys? We defined a series as having a minimum of three books, and—after some debate—we decided the titles had to be anchored in fiction. From YA to horror to historical fiction, from fresh voices to seminal tales, hours of discovery await.

Still a Clines fan but kind of disappointed that he chose to include this type of character in an otherwise intriguing plot and storyline.

Would you recommend The Fold to your friends? Why or why not?
I really enjoyed this book up to sayyyyy chapter 39 and then it just died for me. Totally lost me. I love the premis of the main character but the storyline was just too weak. Moved way to slow from that point. I would skip this one if I had another chanceGreat start. Painful to finish

Ray Porter was a great narrator-- so yes for him.
Would you ever listen to anything by Peter Clines again?
Probably not
Which character – as performed by Ray Porter – was your favorite?
He did a good job with all of them
Any additional comments?
Pros: Imaginative story with fantastic possibilities, very good narration, the main character was strongly written.
Cons: The female characters were so, so lame-- does the author even know any real women????, the nonstop f-word was a huge distraction in audio format, the ending was disappointing. The author had the opportunity to end with something really amazing (like some sweet physics, and blew it with (spoiler).
Started strong-- went downhill
