Lizards, Zombies, and Time Machines. Oh My!

I love Peter Clines. And I’m not just saying that because he paid me to stop NOT stalking him. Some authors you like because they are so beyond you and you strive to reach for them in awe of their greatness, such as Asimov and Herbert. Other authors you love because their particular brand of crazy reminds you of yourself and you know you can comfortably share a strait jacket together. They speak to your kindred soul in a language only you (and enough others to make them a NYT bestseller) understand. You belong to the same nerd posse (or is it geek posse?). You are enough alike to get what they say and share their excitement, and yet different enough to be surprised and wowed at the same time. This collection is all too brief. But good writing leaves you wanting more and good characters draw you in and bind you to them. If you haven’t yet read his other works, stop wasting your time and get busy.

Clines' flair, but not fleshed out

After reading most of Peter Clines' other works, I thought this would be an amazing addition to my collection. I was not disappointed. There are truly original short stories and those that somewhat piggy back off of Ex-Heroes and 14. The problems I have with it is lie mostly in the lack of world building that Clines excels at. I know it's ironic that a zombie writer isn't fleshing out all his work, but in a compilation of stories ranging from 7 to 45 minutes long, it's understandable. In fact, some of the longer stories are slow burners, taking a long time to actually get to the meat of the story. The narrators definitely go through the ringer, forced to use a wide variety of voices, with accents and children and females and monsters. Some are executed expertly. Others... eh. But I do love the author, who weaves an expertly crafted sci fi tale every time. Zombies, werewolves, time travellers, lizard people, rednecks, superheroes, and much more! I wish this was in print because I think some moments would best be read rather than recited. And it would sit next to all my other Peter Clines books.

Pretty good, leaves you hanging

sounds like these were a bunch of book ideas Peter Clines had, some of them I would have really enjoyed as a full book... many of these stories end so abruptly. I'm sad it's only 4 hours long

Incredibly enjoyable

All the stories were inventive and narrated wonderfully. Ray Porter is one of my favorite narrators and Peter Clines stories always keep you guessing.

So much awesome!

I have been a fan of Clines for a couple years, ever since I first listened to 14. Having listened to this collection of short stories the best praise I can give it is I wish most of these stories were full novels! He has a wicked imagination! The narration is pretty great as well, and to me, the narrator is almost as important as the content!
