About this listen

"The master of ticking-bomb suspense" (People) returns with a devilishly good thriller, and reward seeker Colter Shaw's most personal case to date.

Just hours after the harrowing events of The Never Game and The Goodbye Man, Colter Shaw finds himself in San Francisco, where he has taken on the mission his father began years ago: finding a missing courier bag containing evidence that will bring down a corporate espionage firm responsible for hundreds, perhaps thousands, of deaths.

Following the enigmatic clues his father left behind, Shaw plays cat and mouse with the company's sadistic enforcers, as he speeds from one gritty neighborhood in the City by the Bay to another. Suddenly, the job takes on a frightening urgency: Only by finding the courier bag can he expose the company and stop the murder of an entire family - slated to die in 48 hours.

With the help of an unexpected figure from his past, and with the enforcers closing the net, Shaw narrows in on the truth - and learns that the courier bag contains something unexpected: a secret that could only be described as catastrophic.

Filled with dozens of twists and reversals, The Final Twist is a nonstop race against time to save the family...and to keep the devastating secret Shaw has uncovered from falling into the wrong hands.

Deaver brings the underlying story of the death of Colter's father to completion. The entire story is played out in this book - and the best thing is the appearance of Colter's brother, Russell. The two brothers work together in bringing down everyone involved in the planned political destruction of the United States - at a minimum. And I might be exaggerating, but I don't think so. The outstanding thing that Deaver brings to the table is that the possibilities of what the bad guys are trying to do could probably be done!! It just so happens that Colter seems to get in the way of the bad guys by simply trying to do his job - and he has a conscience that will not let him walk away from the bigger issues. I like these books because Colter will not use violence unless he's pushed into it - and I think that's what makes him an unusual hero. He doesn't beat and shoot his way out of difficult situations - at least not all the time. I would highly recommend this series - Jeffery Deaver is a great story teller!!!

Great series

I’ve listened to over 800 books since becoming an audible member. The average book length has been around nine hours. This book is about three hours longer than that and it doesn’t really need to be. The story was a very good story, but it could’ve been told with a lot less detail.

Great story but too much detail

I love the show TRACKER. But these novels have been great. I prefer to do the audiobook. The narrator’s female voice is almost the same for everyone. Sometimes the men too. He could try harder. Otherwise it’s fine. One other thing, Deaver should retire “Latinx “. I’m Latin and never understood why people use it.

I’m biased

See previous review re: giving Shaw's mom multiple professions. Not impossible but she'd have to have been a genius who started college at 10 or 12.
Wolf packs in eastern California? Nope. Only at Mt. Lassen near Shasta.
Saying the homeless either have schizophrenia or borderline personality disorder? Um, no. Substance-induced psychotic disorder, some Schizophrenic, some Bipolar, some PTSD. Borderline? Really. Most Borderline folks are quite functional.

The car in the movie Bullitt a Dodge Charger????? Good gravy. Clearly, Mr. Deaver did not SEE the movie. It was a Ford Mustang!!!!!

Still like the main character. Not the inaccuracy.

This series ender was all that I hoped for. lots of twists and turns but nothing too obvious. I hope Mr. Deaver continues this character for some time to come. if so, I am very much looking forward to the next Colter Shaw book.

Excellent ending to the series
