Not what I thought , very slow

Very slow and not a real plot to the story. Not one of his best books . I usually like anything he writes but not this time . Kept reading thinking it would improved but even the ending didn’t make sense

Great read!

The story was written well and enjoyed it. I can't wait for the next book.

Colter keeps coltin’!

Deaver is a masterful storyteller and I hope five Colter books is just the beginning of a long, long search for a reward!

Better Than The TV Show

I started listening to this series due to the TV Show. I had not realized that Jeffery Deaver had written another series - I was extremely pleased!! Jeffery Deaver can WRITE!! This book is a continuation of Colter Shaw's life and the story never seems to get old! I am always impressed by the variety and depth of the characters, the consistency of the main characters, and how Shaw always seem to find himself in the midst of a multi-antagonistic situation!! The thing I think I like the best about Shaw is that he is not infallible!! He doesn't always come up with the correct answer all the time! Many times, something happens that flicks that light switch - and he gets it!! That's the way it seems to work in real life!! He really isn't any different than the rest of us - he just has different talents, like we all do, and he uses them to do what he does!! This book is no different than the others - it is well worth the read!!! You will not be disappointed!!!

Good Read!

This story, despite its length is extremely fast paced!!!! My goodness I flew through this book fast. action packed and a good story

Just Ok

I have enjoyed the Coulter Shaw series and looked forward to the latest book. I found it boring. I think the essence of the characters, especially Coulter, was neglected in favor of the river story. I also thought too many characters were brought in. And what was the point of the abused writer opening and closing the book?

Out of all the Colter Shaw stories, this one was slow and I kept getting distracted.

Weakest of the bunch, by A LOT

I love these novels and the inherent goodness of Colter Shaw. However this book goes off the rails almost immediately. Full of well-rendered characters and a ticking clock motif, it has all the ingredients of another great Deaver novel, but I was unable to get in the groove for this one.
Perhaps I can give it another run, but it really felt to me that it was treading water, and it breaks faith with the reader on a few key occasions. Also, with all due respect to the author, whom I’ve read a lot, there are a handful of passages towards the back end of the book, which make very little sense to me, and I reread those passages more than once. All I could figure was those chapters were either not edited at all, or they were written by a different author, or they were generated through AI. Several phrases were simply nonsensical to my ear, and some of the dialog in those passages was not heightened or unusual, but things people who have American English as their first language (as the characters are meant to) do not say. Relistening did not help me understand what was meant in these passages beyond some rote “sexiness”. Again, that was simply to my understanding of the author and American English, and I’m no expert on AI.
The whole thing felt underbaked, and also overwrought at the same time, which was wearying.
Anyway, if we get another one maybe it will be a course correction.
The narration was very good, even if the subject matter didn’t stack up.

South of Nowhere

This has been my favorite of the 5 Colten Shaw books cause the story line keep moving! I related it to the flooding of the river in Texas. I liked how his sister was finally introduced in the book and what a strong lady she was!!! Very interesting book!!
