Publisher's Summary

This college jock is a total player. He's used to getting who and what he wants. Until her....

Katrina

The hottest guy on campus won't stop asking me out. I know that sounds like a good problem to have, but this guy...this guy has no idea how complicated my life is trying to juggle being a single mom and college student.

Every Thursday, he shows up at the café where I work. His cheesy pickup lines and arrogance should have me completely annoyed. I'm not. I can't say yes, but Thursday is my favorite day of the week.

Joel

The hottest girl on campus won't go out with me. I know, I know, that sounds presumptuous, but this girl...this girl has gotten under my skin, and I can't seem to walk away.

Every Thursday, I show up at the café where she works. She's fed me every excuse in the book. I should give up and bang one of the many girls blowing up my phone. I'm not. Even when she says no, Thursday is my favorite day of the week.

Winners Want the Ball

Overall 4.5 stars
Performance 5 stars
Story 4 stars

This series is such a fun twist on the NA sports romance. After loving The Assist, I couldn't wait to get to Joel's story next. This is book 2 in the series, but it can be enjoyed as a standalone. I definitely recommend the previous book though, because it's a great read/listen and that is where our characters are introduced.

It's no secret that my least favorite type of romance hero is the manwhore. Thankfully, Joel ended up being much more than the cocky and arrogant big man on campus. There are still some less than pleasant reminders of his colorful past, but we also get to see a much sweeter and vulnerable side to Joel Moreno as well. The witty banter and push and pull between Katrina and Joel was delicious and I loved the slow burn build up between them. Both have pasts that have left scars and it was so wonderful seeing them each break those walls down. Christian was so cute and I really loved his interactions with Joel, but I did feel that his vocabulary seemed a bit advanced for a 3 year old. The drama at the end was thankfully resolved quickly and Joel made up for it in the end.

Teddy Hamilton was wonderful as always and even though I thought he might be too sweet to pull off Joel, he of course ended up being perfect. This was my first time listening to Summer Morton, but I really enjoyed her narration as determined and guarded Katrina. Both gave playful and heartfelt performances and really brought the characters to life. I'm really looking forward to Z's story next!

Sweet Sports Romance

I absolutely adored this. This is delivering everything you want in a NA sports romance. Swoon worthy basketball star with a hankering for coffee. A tough as nails heroine who is totally self sufficient. She doesn’t need the hunk she wants him and it’s refreshing.

If getting the story wasn’t enough Teddy Hamilton is knocking it out of the park as the H. Summer Morton is also wonderful.

If you like NA and sports romance this is an easy listen. You will have a great time with well developed characters. Totally worth a credit!

Predictable but good

The storyline was really predictable in the book. It did seem a bit drawn out for my liking. It took me a really long time to get through it. The story was still pretty good and I would listen to others in the series.

Another great addition to this series

This is such a wonderful addition to this series.
I was waiting for Joel’s book since I had met him in The Assist . He had caught my attention in the first book and definitely there is sooo much more to him than his last name and pretty face. He was one of my favorite secondary characters in The Assist and I loved everything about his story.

I really enjoyed the witty banter and push and pull between Joel & Katrina. The slow burn build up was perfectly captured by the narrators. The story was great but I give the credit to both the talented narrators for doing justice in capturing the characters sooo well . Teddy Hamilton was wonderful as always and did a brilliant job narrating Joel’s character . It was my first time listening to Summer Morton and I enjoyed her as well. I listened this audiobook on 10 hours flight and I didn’t even realize how soon the time flew by . I can’t wait to listen to the next book in the series . Definitely a must listen.

Could not put it down

This was my absolute favorite of this series.
I absolutely adored these characters. Katrina is a hardworking, single mom in college. Whoa.
Joel is your playboy. He knows he's good looking and knows he can have any girl. Katrina is not any girl.
Joel is determined to get Katrina to go out with him. Katrina is very hesitant for obvious reasons, but slowly they work themselves into each others lives.

I can't wait for more of these characters. I am loving this series!

The narration was perfectly on point for these characters. Their emotions came through and had you hanging on their every word.

Another Goodie!!

The audible version of this read was perfectly done! I love that we get the dual POV in not just the story but including voices that match it. That is honestly my fave type of audible. In book 2 we get Joel & Kitty’s story and it was awesome! Joel finally gets to see what it’s like when a girl doesn’t hang off of his every word and what’s a guy to do but try to change that. Because after all he is the Joel Moreno. Little does he know that Katrina isn’t your typical chick and that doesn’t mean much other than the fact that she knows he makes for some hot eye candy. Great story!!! Totally recommend! This series is definitely worth diving into!

Love it!

I absolutely adore everything about this book! It is very well written, perfectly narrated, and it brought all the feels! I can't wait for more of this series!

Joel and Katrina are perfect together. I was cheering them on from the very beginning. They are both really interesting characters on their own. I loved the way Joel pursued Katrina. He knew when he saw something special and refused to give up. I also loved the way Katrina let him in little by little. Watching her walls come down was a delight. Both of these characters had a lot of layers, and I loved watching them peel away.

The narration is spot on. I loved Teddy Hamilton (nothing new there) and Summer Morton. They brought out every emotion and brought a fantastic listen!

This book is part of a series, but they are complete standalones and don't need to be read in order, but I definitely recommend reading both of them. They are both fantastic, and I can't wait for more!

Sexy sports romance, perfect for Off-Campus fans!

After finishing THE ASSIST I was ready to jump in and immediately read THE FADEAWAY. The Assist, Smart Jocks book 1, was my first by this author and I found myself completely captivated by the story and characters. So I couldn't wait to read more of her books.

Joel is your typical womanizer/ladies man, who's not used to hearing no when it comes to women or anything for that matter. He's lived a privileged life. But he has secrets and demons hidden down deep. So when Katrina shuts him down, getting her becomes a challenge. Katrina knows all about Joel's history with women and has no intentions of getting involved. She has enough on her plate as a single mom, working and going to school. But someone she finds herself spending a lot of time with him.

I love a story with a good sassy character that can make me weak in the knees. Joel definitely delivered! I didn't expect him to end up being as sweet as he was. I enjoyed watching the slow burn romance evolve in this book. If you're looking for a sexy, slightly comical, slow burn romance, definitely pick this one up.

The narrators on these first two books did a fantastic job! I plan on reading the next book in this series, The Tip-Off, ASAP! I'm also very much looking forward to THE FAKE coming in November. I think anyone who is a fan of sexy sports romance books, will like the Smart Jocks series.

Had Me Swooning

I wasn’t sure about this couple in the beginning, but I ended up loving them together. I’m giving this 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I liked Katrina (Kitty) from the first book when we saw a little of her and Blair interacting. Then getting to know her, and her son, in depth made me love her. She was doing so much on her own, and I commend her for her strength. I also liked how she found time to be with her friends/Joel, and gave herself a needed break from her hectic life.

I was less sure about my feelings for Joel when this book started. I thought he was okay in The Assist, but he wasn’t my favorite of the teammates. He won me over though! Also I adored how Joel made spending time with both Kitty AND her son a priority. A lot of men would just ignore the kid, especially college guys. There were some flashbacks to his past that helped me understand his character more, so those were a nice touch too.

I really loved the narrators, especially Teddy Hamilton. Those Spanish lines had me swooning. Single parent romances are one of my absolute favorite tropes plus the addition of sports made this audiobook even more amazing. I can’t wait to continue with this series!

My favorite in the series!

I loved reading The Fadeaway when it was released as an eBook, but listening to it as an audiobook just made it an even better experience, thanks to the combination of a fantastic story from Rebecca Jenshak and the wonderful narration of Teddy Hamilton and Summer Morton. Main characters Joel and Katrina won me over the minute he asked her out and she turned him down. My attention was caught, and by the end of the story, so was my heart. Maybe it was just me, but I liked the fact that Joel--a player on and off the court--had to work his tooshie off trying to convince Katrina to not merely go out with him but to see him as more than his reputation. She also happened to have a good reason for being wary of him, so this wasn't just a matter of her playing hard to get, which I considered a really great change of pace from the usual fare in other books. You know a story is amazing when it still holds your attention AND affection the second time you experience it, and this was the one that cemented my adoration for Jenshak's writing. It also didn't hurt that this was narrated by one of my favorite male narrators, Hamilton, and that I was introduced to and was left impressed by the vocal stylings of Morton. Five-plus all around for The Fadeaway! ♥

Really enjoyed this story. Great narration.

I enjoyed the way that Teddy Hamilton and Summer Morton brought these characters to life.

It's really nice to go back into a world I enjoyed in the first book of the series but see it from the point of view of another set of characters. This story is lovely, enjoyable, and to me very sweet. I loved watching the characters as they approached the situations around them and built their relationships. I feel the subject is handled sympathetically but not in a saccharine or clichéd way. I really enjoyed it.

a college single mom romance

In this book while I did enjoy the the characters and the overall story I had to mark it down one star because I felt like there was a few points in the story where maybe it was a bit drawn out and slow for me. As for the characters in the plot I found the story enjoyable kind of that sweet predictable college tough story romance. As for the narrators I feel like they did a great job and I do prefer the dual narrators but over all they both did a great job with each character and how they work together.

love finds away.

this is the 2nd book in this series. I fell in love with Joel from the start. He is a guy who knew what he wanted, Katrina. He was persistent in asking her out. Katrina has her reasons for saying no. He helps her with a play she is writing by taking to his family. Her secret comes out why she doesn't date.
Joel doesn't do long term due to his high school girl.
As he gets to know Katrina and her son, he cant help falling. But doesnt want to.

the Narrators were amazing. Listening to Teddy speak Spanish. wow. Summer is new to me. I loved her as well. She nailed the child voice.

Katrina & Joel

Swoon. This story captured me from the first sentence. I listened to it in one sitting. I was highly entertained and strongly rooting for Joel. The writing, narration, characters, the moon cycles, one or all of these combined to just grab my attention. Great story, great narration.

This is a great series!

This is book 2 in the series but still a stand alone if you wish. The 1st book was just as good though. I love sports themes but this author also gives you a great storyline too. The narrators are fantastic. Teddy is one of my all time favorites. Makes this book a knockout for sure. Loved it!

Loved It!

Audiobook review. It takes a truly great story for me to buy the reformed play-boy bit. Especially when the heroine is a single mother. This novel was crafted in such a way that I not only believed it but I fell in love with the characters!

Joel is a sexy, smart jock with a lot to offer a lady, only he wasn’t interested in doing so until Katrina. Katrina’s life is complicated and she’s got very little time for distractions but Joel is not having it.

The plot takes us through their courting and growth as they get to know more about one another and themselves. It was sweet, funny, and emotional.

The narrators, Teddy Hamilton and Summer Morton did a fantastic job with these characters. Everything was on point from the tone and pitch to the emotions and little nuances in their voices.

Joel and Kitty

The Fadeaway by Rebecca Jenshak is an awesome book. I love that this book is a standalone listen, yet has some characters/places from The Assist included in this story. The author is fantastic giving the characters depth on this sweet and steamy college romance. The injection of Christian in the story was well done. Many college girls are single mothers, and he added another angle to this smart jock story. Teddy Hamilton and Summer Morton were fantastic bringing the characters to life. They added realistic emotions. The background relationships of Joel and Katrina in this book were so well done and added another layer to the character depth. Thank you Audiobook Obsession for this great book! I loved it!

College Hot Guy and Single Mum

The Fadeaway is the second book in the Smart Jocks series, but can be read as a standalone. This college based romance features basketball player and popular/hot guy Joel and single mum Katrina as the 2 main characters.

Joel is THE popular guy on campus. Girls throw themselves at him, and he has basically been sleeping his way through college. That all changes when he notices Katrina at the coffee shop, but she continually turns him down and won't go out with him. Katrina is a single mum to an adorable 3 year old son, and regardless of her attraction to Joel she knows of his reputation with the ladies and has more important priorities like her son and college.

Joel is much deeper than his initial portrayal of the easy going hot guy just looking for hook-ups, and I was really invested in getting to the part of the story where he realises how deep his feelings run for his *kitty*. The Fadeaway was a fun book to listen to, and the narrators for both Joel and Katrina were really good.
