Publisher's Summary

Once upon a time…

A town will only suffer the presence of a witch for as long as she is useful. Aisling watches the flames lick her thighs and prays for a quick death. But when an Unseelie prince appears through the smoke, she does what any self respecting witch would do.

She curses him.

Bran should never have traveled to the human realm, and is shocked when a witch binds them together. His life is hers and he refuses to die. He saves her from the fires, casts a hex on the townsfolk for good measure, then whisks her away to safety. His only stipulation? She has to remove the binding curse.

Unfortunately for them both, she can’t. Witch and Unseelie must travel across the Otherworld to break the ties that bind them. Secrets and lies stand between them, but both will stop at nothing to save themselves.

The Faceless Woman by Emma Hamm

I haven't read anything like this! This fantasy romance is super amazing. I love how the story went even though the ending was bitter sweet but we all know what happened to the swan lake princess right? I did fell in love with the characters so much I wanted to learn witchcraft myself to lift their curse which of course is very impossible.(please excuse my day dreaming)

The narration by Siobhan Waring was also amazing!

Such a great listen!!

I listened to the first two books in this series and just fell in love with his world and its inhabitants. Book three is not available in an audiobook but I was thrilled to get book four. This listen really didn't have anything to do with the main characters in first two books but that's okay; it was a great story on its own.

Waring's narration is what elevates this story to its greatness. She is such a consummate performer that younever doubt that a with turned cat is talking to you. I can't wait for the next edition!!

The Faceless Woman

I know that when I read or listen to an Emma Hamm book, I must stay committed to sticking to the story or I will miss out on some beautiful story telling. To me, most of her books start out slow, and there are times when I think they drag, but I can also tell that she gradually builds a well-rounded story that will have you wanting more of her work.

The faceless woman is very interesting. I wonder what it would be like if people could not see our true face, but I digress. As I said, the story is interesting, and I believe your time won't be wasted listening to the audiobook. Siobhan is the kind of narrator who can take a mediocre book and enhance it with the voice magic she uses. Ok, maybe not voice magic, but excellent talent of giving each character his or her own uniqueness, and that is exactly what she did with The Faceless Woman. Her voice makes this story better. She makes you want to go on the journey and experience the adventures the characters go through.

Not what I expected

So, I went into this book expecting it to be a continuation of the series, but instead it was a story in itself with a couple of overlapping characters. Once I got past trying to connect the main character back to the main character of the previous books I enjoyed the story.

Great First Swan Princess Experience

This was a fascinating listen. Loved the adventure and seeing the story unravel and what curses Aisling and Bran had. In all honesty, I've never heard the original Swan Princess so I have nothing to compare this retelling to. However, I really enjoyed this author's writing. Great Story!

I loved the slight British accent the narrator has/used. Really made this fantasy/fairytale/romance come to life. Very pleasant voice and excellent performance!

I received a review copy at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

What kind of ending...?

I liked it well enough I suppose. Decently enjoyable writing, with better characters & romance than the first book. But I felt everything was too rushed at the end and didn't really make sense, to the point where I lost faith in the series and will not be continuing. Would that I were my teenage self again, I'd probably continue. Being an adult, I find my standards likely too high to fully enjoy most YA fiction anymore...

Cliffhanger

I loved everything about this except for the cliffhanger and that Audible hasn’t released the next one after a year of this one being out and several books following this. That’s frustrating.

What?

I didn't really fully understand the ending. That has never happened to me with books, movies or T.V. series, so I'm not dumb...I think the writing could have been better. I gave the book 4 stars. I did enjoy most of the story, I'm still debating whether or not to listen to part 2 of this series.

4.5, round up

I was honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed this. I love that almost every time I thought it was going to fall into some PNR trope it subverted it. Here's an example (I'm paraphrasing), during the only (mild) sex scene Bran trotted out the common "say 'no' now, I won't stop after this." I hate when heroes do this and you hear it all the time in PNR, like the hero he isn't saying "I'll just go ahead and rape you if you try and stop me past this point" and the reader is supposed to feel it's something else, romantic even. I groaned when he said it and then cheered when her response was, "I don't want you to stop, but if you think I couldn't stop you if I wanted to, you don't know me well."

That's Aisling in a nutshell, never afraid to call someone out, never making herself smaller, never duller her shine for someone else, but also never falling into harridan or shrew. I so much appreciated that both she and Bran were as honest with each other as they could be, never faulted the other for what was out of their control and Hamm never took the easy 'misunderstanding' or 'angry over secrets' plotting path.

I look forward to reading more of this series, maybe going back and starting at the beginning. And if I can get the audio, even better, because Siobhan Waring did a marvelous job.

Note: I received an Audible code for a copy of this book. I chose to listen and review it.

I’ve always loved “The Swan Princess” and this retelling just gave me a knew favorite. This one has a darker side in it. This is more of an adult story, darker and more intriguing.

Beautifully Disastrous

The story is wonderful and dark at the same time. It’s like the light and the darkness at the same place. This is beautifully written and narrated. The author really knows what she is doing. Great work!

A wonderful twist on a fairy-tale

This is like the upgraded version of The Swan Person. It has more twists and is also wonderfully narrated. The story will make you feel different emotions especially with the characters. The main characters are so loveable.
