Gavin and Cinida were great as well. Even though she got on my nerves sometimes, Cinida's heart was in the right place. She loved her sister very much, and only wanted her to be happy. The same for Gavin, in regards to his father's happiness. They both knew what Ballard and Louvane had to sacrifice, in order for Gavin and Cinida to have. A long lasting love and marriage.
Ambrose and Magda were my favorite after Ballard and Louvane. These two were so funny and kept 100 with the people around them, whether they liked it or not. They never held no cut cards with anyone, not even Ballard. These two characters kept the story alive and funny from time to time. They were so enjoyable and memorable.
The only character I couldn't stand, however was written so good, was Jimin. He's the type of character that you'll love to hate. I particularly didn't like how he treated and hurt Louvane. No man should ever put his hands on a woman, no matter what she says or does. Then tying a rope around, then attaching that rope to the hoof of your horse and dragging along to get Cinida was the final straw. Not to mention how tricked and used Louvane and Cinda's father Mersa as ploy to force his younger daughter into marrying Jimin. I was happy that Mersa ended Jimin by protecting his children.
Grace Draven, once again has captured me into another story of love, angst, passion, desire and suspense. Her writing is so effortless and so easy to read. I love how she captures the readers attention at the very beginning of the story. I love how each one of her stories are different, yet they still have the same outcome. They're amazing stories. Can't wait to read more!!!
A Beauty and the Beast Retelling

Louvaen: “Watch me.”
I adored this Beauty and the Beast variation. Grace Draven has a gift for writing truly enchanting tales with unique magic, strong women, and love stories that don’t revolve around miscommunications.
You’d think it’d be easier to find other books with this winning combination, but sadly that isn’t the case. This book also has great family bonds, humor and heart, and two romances (and possibly a smidge more if you count the help…).
“You might want to hide the axe.”
It did take me a while to accept the narrator, who to me sounded as if she had a cold. But, at 1.4x, and with her phenomenal (and varied) accents for everyone down to the supporting cast of housekeeper Magda and wizard Ambrose, she won me over and I got lost in the magic of the story. I was not at all bothered by the very rare mispronunciation of words because I know (1) well-read people “see” words more than they “hear” them, evincing Ms Holmes’ book-smarts and (2) I might have pronounced those few words correctly, but I could not have carried this story off with nearly the level of skill.
“There were rules to curse breakage.”
My only other (slight) criticism is that the writing style caused confusion. First, there are past recollections in the first half that aren’t very well sign-posted; it would sometimes take a few minutes for me to realize I was hearing the tale of Cedric, Isabeau and Ballard from centuries before. Second, the magic system and curse were never satisfactorily explained. Like, why do we go thru 2/3 of the book with the castle occupants unable to talk about the curse and then suddenly they’re able to? Because rules, apparently, although no one explains the how or why beyond this vague assertion. I think I understand what finally broke the curse, but I might be wrong (saying more would be too spoiler-y, sorry).
“If we lived a 1,000 years, I’d still feel cheated”
This contains only period appropriate swearing, three nooky scenes (at 6, 7, and 10.75 hrs) that
pearl clutchers can easily FF past, and Bros Grimm levels of violence and danger. You need to work a bit, think a bit, and feel a lot. But, this is captivating, lush, and heartfelt.
