Publisher's summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • John Grisham delivers high-flying international suspense in a stunning new legal thriller that marks the return of Mitch McDeere, the brilliant hero of The Firm.

What became of Mitch and Abby McDeere after they exposed the crimes of Memphis law firm Bendini, Lambert & Locke and fled the country? The answer is in The Exchange, the riveting sequel to The Firm, the blockbuster thriller that launched the career of America’s favorite storyteller. It is now fifteen years later, and Mitch and Abby are living in Manhattan, where Mitch is a partner at the largest law firm in the world. When a mentor in Rome asks him for a favor that will take him far from home, Mitch finds himself at the center of a sinister plot that has worldwide implications—and once again endangers his colleagues, friends, and family. Mitch has become a master at staying one step ahead of his adversaries, but this time there’s nowhere to hide.

Critic reviews

"Narrator Edoardo Ballerini masterfully narrates this sequel, reacquainting listeners with Mitch and Abby McDeere 15 years after their harrowing misadventures in THE FIRM.... Ballerini leverages his talent with accents as the action moves back and forth from New York to Rome, Libya, Morocco, and Maine. Impressively, Ballerini also finds credible voices for Abby, who plays a big role, and for the McDeeres' twin 8-year-old sons.... The result is a well-narrated audiobook." (AudioFile)

Editorial Review

The long-awaited sequel to The Firm does not disappoint
Edoardo Ballerini delivers a suspense-filled performance of this sequel to John Grisham’s bestselling 1991 novel (and the 1993 film starring Tom Cruise), The Firm. It’s been 15 years since Mitch and Abby McDeere fled Memphis. They’re now living in Manhattan with their 8-year-old twin sons, and Mitch is a partner at one of New York’s biggest law firms. When a colleague is kidnapped in Libya, Mitch must navigate international intrigue to thwart the impending execution and come up with the staggering $100 million ransom. Ballerini’s taut narration pairs well with Grisham’s short chapters, perfectly building up the urgency of the story’s drama for a thrilling, pulse-pounding listen. —Margaret H., Audible Editor

15 years….

I expected more to have waited so long on an update but I wasn’t too impressed. I mean it wasn’t HORRIBLE but it wasn’t anything memorable either. Disappointed is an understatement. Narrator was the best part.

Worst Grisham book I’ve ever read.

I sat down expecting a great story. Two chapters in and instead I find myself checking the Title Page to verify this was actually written by Grisham. Boring and predictable story. No plot twist or surprises. I’ve read some great word from Grisham

Not enthralling

TV series was better. I’d like another season of that. In your next McDerre book, make him and Abby more believable. I want to care about them.

Poor Mitch

If you’re looking for a continuation of Mitch and Abby’s story, this is not that. Not sure what this is, but it is neither believable nor satisfying. Skip and wait for a film version that can do better.

Boring! Boring! Boring!

Narrator is okay. Book is unexciting, stagnant, disappointing. Mitch is unlikeable. Abby is too
different.

So disappointed

I only finished the book because of Eduardo Ballerini. I kept waiting for something to happen…very disappointing.

Ugh - was this really a Grisham?

Where are the unforeseen twists? It ended and I had to check that I hadn’t fallen asleep, it just sort of fizzled to a close. Every other Grisham book I’ve read left me waiting for the next one - this one … a sore disappointment.

It never engaged me - I struggled through it because JG is such a talented author otherwise, but sadly, this one was a dud. I had more excitement waiting for it to drop than at any point in the book.

It would have been an improvement if it included the test kitchen recipes and could have been classified as a cookbook.

Not up to Grisham’s standards

Boring. Disjointed. Not at all satisfying. Reader was good. Plot was not. Grisham may be following Stephen King into the fiction factory world of mediocrity. Save your credit. If you really want to waste your time on it wait til it’s available on Libby.
