To the Jockey Club, the racing world would be a better place without Julius Apollo Filmer. An expert in corruption with a devastating line in witness intimidation, and proving to be a slippery character to put behind bars. Baffled, they call in undercover security agent Tor Kelsey to keep an unflinching eye on Filmer and his associates. A mission that takes him from the finest of English racecourses to the wild Canadian interior, on a luxury transcontinental train journey to end them all. On board, a troupe of actors are playing out a murder mystery to amuse their wealthy passengers. Ideal cover for a secret investigator with secrets of his own. And ideal cover, as it turns out, for an ice cool blackmailer with murder on his mind.©1988 Dick Francis (P)2014 Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd. Action & Adventure Mystery Mystery, Thriller & Suspense

What did you love best about The Edge?

Dick Francis stories always entertain me. Mystery surrounding horses make for a good read for a horse lover. I particularly enjoyed the train mystery portion of the story, and that the train ride takes place in Canada. The only small and silly issue I had was the VIA Rail pronounced as individual letters instead of 'via' the word, which is how us Canadians pronounce it.

Good fun read...takes place partially in Canada!

I will count this as one of my favourite Dick
Francis books. It has everything you expect from him; humour, crime, a hint of romance, a history on rail travel, and all done in an extremely entertaining way. His research is extensive, so I trust everything he writes in relation to the racing industry in Canada, the travel industry, and Canadian Rail. Bravo Mr. Francis.

Dick Does It Again

Yet another riveting plot by Dick Francis and an impeccable performance by Britton. This is one of my favourites.

This is an enjoyable Francis novel, but dated. It also has some laughable errors over Canadian vocabulary and speech patterns. Tony Britton as reader made it worse through clumsy attempts at Canadian accents. Not to mention making all the women sound shrill.

Not his best

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The narrator was easy to listen to and added just enough vocal changes to create charater differentiation and interest. I've read Dick Francis before and once again he showed he was the master of this particular genre. Fastpaced and good twists and turns that keep you guessing and wanting to find out how things end. Worth a listen particularly on those long plane flights.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Edge?

Hard to pick one. That's a Dick Francis skill. He takes you on a roller coaster ride from one crisis to the next.

Which character – as performed by Tony Britton – was your favorite?

Main character.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Train track to horse track the race to save lives is on.

Any additional comments?
