After the tragic death of his wife and son, the Earl of Trenton and his young daughter, Leah, struggle to move past their grief. Months later, Lord Trenton meets Lady Caroline, a pretty, yet jealous, woman.
Lady Caroline wants nothing more than to marry the Earl, but something stands in her way - Leah. When she pushes the Earl to hire a governess to take care of Leah, her jealousy is unleashed when she sees Emma, the beautiful governess.
As Christmas approaches, Lady Caroline makes plans to get rid of the governess, plans which the Earl discovers after it’s too late. Can Lord Trenton’s Christmas wish come true, or will tragedy strike his life yet again?

Story
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Ryder, Garrett, Kenzo, and Diesel - The Vipers. Their deals are as sordid as their business, and their reputation is enough to bring a grown man to his knees, forcing him to beg for mercy. They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses. Yes, sold me. They own me now. I’m theirs in every sense of the word. But I’ve never been meek and compliant.

Now, I’m the grumpy to Juliet’s sunshine on a popular dating podcast we host, and when a wealthy fan gives us a charming coastal cottage as the biggest thank you ever, we head to the town where I grew up to give it a makeover. poor narration
This was a decent book but the narrator was extremely poor. He read the book with wrong inflections and it was choppy. There was a break in the center where it should have been spliced but sounded like he banged a hard cover book on the table. This was painful to get through. The book itself was OK, but it came to a conclusion quickly and was front heavy with detail and wrapped up extremely quickly with what seemed like almost insta-love.

Yes, there are woman that can fit right in !
Initially this is a sad tale, that you wonder where it would lead.
However, what one person deems as good companionship, may not fit another's idea of the same thing.
As one's idea of a happy family, isn't always everyone's image of the same scene.
Yes this is an interesting story, with a great HEA.

Cute fast story
I didn’t love the narration. It seemed stilted. It’s a good story, you see where it’s going but it has a happily ever after to look forward to. The choice to have the characters always refer to each other as Lord Trenton or Lady Leah made it harder to like the characters. What father (Lord or not) never calls his daughter Leah, only Lady Leah? It added to the stilted nature of the reading. It’s an enjoyable novella that most will enjoy.

Great Short Story!
I enjoyed this short historical romance. Was happy that the Earl and his young daughter found the perfect replacement of the wife and mother they lost and was glad when the Earl discovered the dastardly deed the entitled and spiteful Lady Caroline that he had been courting had tried to pull off. Sorry to say that the narrator’s cadence was too choppy for me to enjoy his narration of this story. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
