Publisher's summary

On a routine flight from Africa to England, Dr. Mason Palmer is tragically killed when the light aircraft he's traveling on crashes and disappears in dense bushland.

Ten months later, Nicole Palmer is still trying to block out the grief of her husband's sudden death. Until one morning she receives a photo of Mason through the post, along with a cryptic message. A message only he could've written.

But when Nicole tries to find out if Mason is really alive and what actually happened to him in Africa, everyone she turns to for answers ends up dead.

Determined to find the truth, Nicole uncovers a conspiracy that spans the globe, and discovers there are powerful people who are prepared to kill to keep her silent.

Who's lying? Who's watching Nicole? And can she expose their murky secrets before they catch up with her?

Just can’t get through this….

I normally really enjoy Henrietta Meire’s narrations but I just could not get through this. The different accents were really difficult to listen to and the only word I can come up with to describe her narration is … she sounded flustered. There needed to be a good deal more editing for sentence structure and content as well. The storyline was basically interesting. Perhaps another narrator or actually reading this would be better.

Great suspense

I finished this in less than 1 day. Just could not put it down. Great to have Sibel Hodge back. I have almost all her books in my library, some of them I read multiple times. This is another good one.

Awful

This book has a ridiculous storyline. Even worse, the reader read in a pedantic monotone. I always try to finish a book I have started but this book was a challenge.

Narration is terrible

I would have happily taken a gun and shot the lead female in this story .... the narration makes her come across as pathetic , whimpering and so weak you literally find yourself hoping she comes to an end somewhere. I would have given 0 stars for the performance but it wouldn’t allow me. Story is drawn out and you lose interest quite quickly. I didn’t care what happened to anyone in this book.
Such a disappointment based on other books by SH.

Awful

I totally understand that the author wanted to highlight the appalling exploitation associated with the industry that is the target of this novel and it is right the such things are exposed, however ‘The Disappeared” fails to be a good novel or a good documentary.
This story is laced with unnecessary emotional description. Sentimentality is laid on with a trowel repeating the same information over and over so that it got so overstated I started skipping forward.
It fails as a novel as the the characters are formula at best, the ‘cartoon’ incompetent DI was so totally unbelievable it was just annoying. The romance is “Mills and Boone”. It’s hard to care about the characters whose actions are quite often just stupid.

Add Henrietta Meire’s dreadful narration to the mix, spoken mostly in 1960’s BBC English (an example is the pronunciation of SOCO as Soe Coe) and overall you have a novel that barely rates a star.
My advice is to avoid this, there are many better written and narrated novels out there.

Needs more justice

I cant lie it was my favourite book but it wasnt a bad book if not for the story line which kept me intrigued. just felt the narrators voice wasnt quite right for such a harsh storyline.

Really good storyline, but...

...completely ruined by the choice of narrator. Her voice was too high pitched and 'whiney' for this type of book; book should have been read with strength and some character. I would recommend reading the book if you are a Sibel Hodge fan (which I am)!

l cannot recommend this book/audio

l have not been able to get passed Chapter 8. Talk about ths incompetence of the female in her accusations to a parent - no one in the real world would get a job with behaviour like this.
Fiction to work needs to be believed - this is beyond real and a total loss.

Couldn’t finish

I have always enjoyed Sibel Hodges books but this becomes so far fetched I had to abort it with still 5 hrs to go. Unfortunately the narrator wasn’t easy to listen to either
