Set in the universe Africanfuturist luminary Nnedi Okorafor first introduced in the World Fantasy Award-winning Who Fears Death, The Daughter Who Remains is the breathtaking conclusion to the She Who Knows trilogy

Featuring Najeeba, now older and wiser than readers have ever known her, this is a tale of family, courage, and healing

Najeeba has something terrible to kill.

And now she’s off to go and kill it. A fully trained, mature, and sharply focused sorcerer (don’t call her sorceress), Najeeba has left the comfort and security of her town with two companions, the glass maker Dedan and the old camel MorningStar. This journey takes her back to where it all began. And despite the fact that her training with the sorcerer Aro forced her to face her deepest fears, she hasn’t seen anything close to what she’s about to see.

As the Igbo proverb goes, a masquerade does not dance for nothing. The Daughter Who Remains is the final book in the She Who Knows trilogy. This tale isn’t about Najeeba learning to master her powerful skills, it’s about her having the audacity and courage to use them and use them well…no matter the consequence.

This book brings phenomenal closure to the unanswered questions throughout the series, including Who Fears Death (this happened to be my first book by Okorafor) in that collection. While weaving together the strong voices of women, the reader/listener will find themselves in the characters. This release brings yet another win for an author worthy of the highest accolades. No matter where you are in Najeeba’s story, this book will bring you heartache, laughter, and a strong connection to the characters. Allow yourself to let the mystical make sense.

I love the story, I love the author, I love the narrator, I love the characters! I'm just so sad that it's over and I can't believe that this book was such a short part of the overall story! I got to the part where she is trying to kill the monster at the end and I mistakenly looked at the time and thought it said 18 hours but it was 18 minutes. I'm so disappointed because I just was like "oh she's going to live because it's 18 more hours or if she doesn't live it's going to be because her daughter is the second part of the story", but no.... it's all over! I'm devastated! sorry for the typos I am talking this review.

not long enough I can't believe it's over

I loooveeeed every single word! The story is beautiful and tragic. I love the metaphors. I finished listening 2 days ago and parts of the story stick with me. The voice actress is phenomenal. She is dramatic in the best way. I felt the anguish, joy, pain, resignation, resilience, rage…literally every emotion of the characters. She and the author created a such a vivid experience…I feel as if the village in the center of the dust storm is a place I once lived. I can’t wait to read and listen to the story about the newest Sorcerer…she gets a trilogy…right??!!
