The Dark Yorkshire Series 1-3

These stories kept my interest from the beginning and the twist in the story wanted me to not stop listening.

Great series

I am a fan of JM Dalgliesh and have read all of his series. He does a great job developing a story and the characters. DI Nathaniel is not my fave character at least not in the beginning as he is so self-destructive, selfish and never shares info with his colleagues. He does grow as a character through the series which is something I look for in books.
To note: in Blacklight, JM Dalgliesh seems to have gotten his story from a real US serial killer, Israel Keys. And also borrowed a scenario from an unsolved (I think) New York serial killer, even down to the 911 recording of the escort and her bodyguard. Glad I knew the stories. Israel Keys was absolutely sick and also stitched the victims eyes open.

unlikable main character

The main character appears to have no self awareness and very few redeeming qualities. Hard to get invested in him.

Dark and Gruesome

This is well written with an interesting plot but too many died for my taste. A mixed up Spy and Police Story

intense, human, well written and performed

The title says it all, really. Having books 1-3 (#3 being my fave) in one book is perfect for me. I will be acquiring the next book, or books, in the series.

Speed up for best enjoyment

Play at 1.2x to fully appreciate Patmore’s skill with emotion and regional accents.

Entertaining and satisfying twists in the stories.

Complicated, James Bond-ish, Anti-Irish

The first book captured my attention. The reader performs well. By the end of the 3rd book ( I got the 3 books for 1 deal) I thought the physical extremes that Caslin goes through was like a fantastical super James Bond movie. I also started to feel very uncomfortable with the Irish people being portrayed as the "enemy" unless they were on the side of the English. I dont really feel we need more divisiveness in our world. We need truths not stereotypes and hate. So I will not be listening to any more of the Dark Yorkshire series, I do have another Dagliesh book in my library and hope it is not more of the same.

Excellent series. Looking forward to the next by JM Dalgliesh Loved the narrator. Easy to listen to making this box set one of the best i have purchsed so far.

I listened to all 3 books in succession with enjoyment. Easy listening narrator as well.
