Publisher's summary

Enter the world of the Confectioner's Guild, an addictive fantasy mystery series brimming with royal intrigue, pulse-pounding romance, and delectable food magic.

The Confectioner's Guild

A magic cupcake. A culinary killer. The perfect recipe for murder.

Wren knew her sweet treats could work wonders, but she never knew they could work magic. She barely has time to wrap her head around the stunning revelation when the head of the prestigious Confectioner’s Guild falls down dead before her. Poisoned by her cupcake.

Now facing murder charges in a magical world she doesn’t understand, Wren must discover the true killer or face the headsman’s axe. But when her search for clues leads to a deep-rooted conspiracy that goes all the way to the top, she realizes that the guild master isn’t the only one at risk of death by chocolate.

If Wren can’t bring the powerful culprit to justice, she and her friends will meet a bittersweet end.

The Confectioner's Coup

Wren thought things were bad when her boyfriend's father tried to frame her for murder. But that was before a hostile army showed up at the city gates, ready to swallow Maradis whole. And before guild members began disappearing one by one - including the Confectioner's Guild's newest Gifted recruit.

Wren, suspecting the king is to blame for the disappearances, undertakes a dangerous investigation that sets her on a collision course with old and new enemies alike. Will she be able to find the missing guild members before tensions boil over into outright rebellion? Or are the guilds willing to go further than she ever realized to rid themselves of the king's tyranny...

The Confectioner's Truth

A deadly new enemy rules Alesia with an iron fist - and an unnatural interest in the magic of the Confectioner's Guild. Betrayed by one of their own, Wren and her few remaining allies flee Maradis to secure whatever aid they can find.

But new dangers and old ghosts lurk around every corner, forcing Wren to confront truths she thought she'd buried deep long ago. Will Wren be able to piece together an alliance, and enough of her own shattered heart, to take back her home from those who hold it hostage? Or will her magic prove too tempting a morsel for her enemies to refuse....

The Confectioner's Exile

Hale Firena has everything - looks, money, power, more girls than he knows what to do with. But in one night everything changes, as a bloody coup turns Hale into a penniless refugee on the run for his life.

Hale's not cut out for real life - the thought of holding down a real job is almost more horrible than the pirates and bandits chasing him.

so cute

This magic system and story are so unique, it was a nice change. I also loved the whole box set being together. I did get confused at one point because the short story was actually the second book played instead of at the end as it was listed.

This book is funny, charming, and still has adventures. I enjoy that there was a royal family involved but not anyone too high up. I cant say I loved Hail from the beginning but I liked how his role came full circle. The friendships are sweet. The mystery and adventure keeps it entertaining.

Creative YA Series

The Confectioners Chronicles was an enjoyable YA series. The concepts in the novel were creative and unique and the characters are well fleshed out and feel like the struggle with "real" concepts of identity and relating to others. The novel is certainly solidly in the YA category and some of the drama comes across as such. However it didn't stop me from enjoying the world building mythology of the series.

Wonderfully imaginative!

I listened to the entire series. I was completely engrossed, excited, tense, mind bent, imagination stretched, and fallen in love with a cast of fastinating characters who will stay with you long after moving on to your next book! The narrator was absolutely spot on, and fully responsible!

enjoyable narrative; harrowing turns

here we have the tale of Wrenn who is lovable and misguided , an overall human. She's scared and worried about those she encounters because, like us, she has been shaped by her experiences. In book one we discover who she is, in book two we discover her challenges as her world changes around her, and in book 3 we discover how she shapes her world to make it what she wants.

Son of a Spicer

I loved the overall idea of this story. Magic and food? Count me in! If you’re looking for a cliché story involving a girl growing up not knowing about her own powers only to be thrown into the magic world with little to no guidance then this is the book for you! If your looking for a story that has in depth character and world building than this story may not be your best bet.

Other than being told briefly some of the politics involving the guilds and their interactions with the governing ruler, there isn’t much more than that. The FMC is the type of girl that would rather spend her time marveling about all the new luxuries of her new life opposed to worrying about the impending doom of a trail that would determine not only her future but the first of the person she has fallen in love with.

To me, this series didn’t feel like in should be classified in any way as a mystery series. Other than the brief “who really killed the guild master” bit in the first book, nothing else is a mystery and I as a reader did not feel the need to try to “figure” anything out.

I swear if I hear the word “said” one more time my ears may bleed. Like seriously it was used multiple times a page. Maybe if I was reading the series opposed to listening to the audio then I could have possibly over looked it and just skipped the word while reading but instead I had to listen to the narrator say the word multiple times a minute.

Speaking of the narrator, there was no depth there. It felt like hearing a bed time story from the bored parent who has had to read the same book over and over a thousand times. Don’t get me wrong, her tone and voice were fine but it got old hearing the same tone for every single character. She tried shaking it up a little bit on the last book by giving a random character an accent but that was about it.

Overall, for me the story was worth reading/listening to once but I would not read it again and sadly I can’t say that it’s a story that I’m going to enthusiastically rave about to my friends. There was just so much potential. I mean come on, you’ve got all this magic floating around and you don’t even use it until the last couple of chapters of the last book?

Stir it up!

A unique take on fantasy. Drawn in from the first. A great cast of characters. Narrator was a perfect choice for this collection.

Relatable, not always likable characters

Well written series with some interesting concepts. Relatable, though not always likable characters. The characters get in real danger and there are consequences, as there should be.

Good fantasy series

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I love the fact that I got all 3 books at once. It was amazing not to have to go searching for the other books. I am a sucker for fantasy books and this one lived up to what I like. The characters were well built and the storyline was great. The author did a fantastic job with this book and the narrator hit it out of the park!
