"No" is sometimes the hardest word to say. It's also the most necessary. How many times have you heard yourself saying yes to the wrong things - overwhelming requests, bad relationships, time-consuming obligations? How often have you wished you could summon the power to turn them down? This program will help you take back your power by showing that a well-placed "No" can not only save you time and trouble, it can save your life.

Creative work doesn't come with a guarantee. But there is a pattern to who succeeds and who doesn't. And engaging in the consistent practice of its pursuit is the best way forward. Based on the breakthrough Akimbo workshop pioneered by legendary author Seth Godin, The Practice will help you get unstuck and find the courage to make and share creative work. Godin insists that writer's block is a myth, that consistency is far more important than authenticity, and that experiencing the imposter syndrome is a sign that you're a well-adjusted human.

For generations, we have focused on the individual drivers of success: passion, hard work, talent, and luck. But today, success is increasingly dependent on how we interact with others. It turns out that at work, most people operate as either takers, matchers, or givers. Whereas takers strive to get as much as possible from others and matchers aim to trade evenly, givers are the rare breed of people who contribute to others without expecting anything in return.

Publisher's Summary
This is a bold book by James Altucher. He not only gives you a new map for the new financial landscape but he also has skin in the game. This is the first financial book in which the author reveals how he makes his own money.
We are living in an epic period of change, danger, and opportunity. The economy is crashing and booming every few years. People are getting fired and replaced by computers and Chinese workers. The stock market crashes with regularity. Every fix from the government makes things worse. The old world has been demolished, and people are desperate for answers.
James Altucher's The Choose Yourself Guide to Wealth contains those answers. This is the field guide to the new world we live in. You can play by the old rules and get left behind, or you can use these new ideas and become wealthy. This is not a book for the faint of heart. Listen at your own risk, because sometimes the truth is hard to take. But for those who are ready to hear, James provides an updated map of the new territory for generating wealth and freedom. This book is the eye opener of the century. It is the guide to building, keeping, and investing your money and breaking free from the chains of rusted, old thinking.

This Audiobook is not an Audiobook
I purchased this Audiobook because I expected it to be just that; a book in audio format. Unfortunately it was not that at all. The author chose to "read" the book himself, but instead formatted it more like a podcast - going off on rabbit-trails and then skipping entire sections. No, I am not kidding... he actually skipped reading an entire chapter and advised the listener to buy the actual book for that part. I'm sorry... I thought that's what I did when I got this audioBOOK.

This is not unabridged, and it's full of rambling.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
This is labeled as unabridged, and I expected the full content of the book. Instead what I got was a rambling conversation including his wife Claudia. If I wanted to listen to James Altucher's podcast, then I would have done that instead of buying this book.
How could the performance have been better?
Read the actual book to the audience. Nothing pissed me off faster than glossing over a section and telling me I need to read the book for the details. I bought this audio book for those details.

I was let down
So after James last book I was excited. It was refreshing and I enjoyed it. This book was not what I expected. Good points but more rambling and less straight wealth talk. I also did not get into it and the two way conversations made it like a podcast not a book. Need to have something actionable and not stories.

COMMENTARY...NOT THE AUDIO-BOOK
The author barely reads the book. It is more of a commentary on his book chapter by chapter w/ a few skips. I would have appreciated the commentary if it was titled as a "COMMENTARY" and not as a book. Aside from that the book is rather good...

put a bullet in my ear
I liked reading the book, but this guy is terrible to listen to, and he's not reading the book, he's rambling on in and out of conversation with his piggy backer wife about the book. I'll stick to reading this one. Would have been great if it had been read by someone who is not James Altucher.

“Free is something you choose everyday”
This reading by the author was very conversational and I expect the written version had more content. That being said, once I got into the Altucher’s tone, I gained a lot of wisdom and perspective. I love the “idea practice” and I’ve already noticed that I’m thinking more clearly as a result. This book was different from most self development books as it didn’t just rephrase universal principles or give obvious advice, but actually offered a very outside the box and honest perspective of the changing world, in a mostly objective way. The quotes from this book felt authentic and useful and I found myself sharing ideas with good reception. I didn’t expect a step by step plan to become wealthy and really liked the abstract-ness that some reviewers mentioned, as I could apply it to my own situation and customize advice. Thanks for the helpful ideas James

Ideas, but not deeply explored ones
Altucher—as he himself is keen to illustrate frequently—has a rich and varied past; it’s such a shame therefore that every topic he touches on is handled with such brevity. Breezing over significant subjects (in his own, particularly monotone style) ranging from leadership to investment’s, it feels as though we the reader are at the receiving end of one of his many money spinning ideas (which of course we are). There are some good messages in the book, but examples are poorly illustrated and important subject are hurried. I’m left feeling that there was something life-changing he wanted to say, but simply can’t get it out.

More than just a re-hash of the first book...
I really liked Choose Yourself (original book) but was sceptical that the wealth guide would give me anything new. I am glad to say I was wrong! Read by James in the same upbeat, anecdotal style, the Choose Yourself Guide to Wealth has a lot of counter-cultural wisdom in it and is detailed enough to be quite practical; for example the Q&A bit about setting up a business. As a teacher and parent, I see my students and my own kids travelling down the same (now broken) path as their parents, as nobody seems to brave enough to tell them that they need to go a different way. Kudos to you James for being brave and shining a light on a new but exciting path to success and (let's hope) happiness.

I wasted my time and money
It's not worthy, this guy doesn't read the book, is like a podcast but a really boring that just rambles around without any real point is just James Altucher talking nonsense. Also in some part of the audiobook, it says if you want to know what the book says just read it. I use audiobooks to walk to the places where I need to go, I can't sit and read and that's how I learn best. If I get an audiobook I want to hear the book!
