One of the very best scientific predictors for how any child turns out - in terms of happiness, academic success, leadership skills, and meaningful relationships - is whether at least one adult in their life has consistently shown up for them. In an age of scheduling demands and digital distractions, showing up for your child might sound like a tall order. But as best-selling authors Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson reassuringly explain, it doesn’t take a lot of time, energy, or money. Instead, showing up means offering a quality of presence.

Publisher's summary
You've been there - feeling helpless, clueless, when a child you love totally bewilders you.
Maybe it's the tantrum at the store, or the hour-long bedtime battle, or the head-scratcher of getting your child to eat veggies. You wonder what on earth to do, so you get advice, read books, watch videos, ask the internet. And still, something's missing.
You need a plan that addresses your child's needs, not everyone else's. Why couldn't children come with a handbook?
Turns out, children are born with a handbook: they are the handbook.
In The Child Whisperer, best-selling author Carol Tuttle explains that children tell their parents every day exactly how they need to be parented. They tell their teachers exactly how they need to be taught. Children are trying to tell adults who they are so they can be recognized and treated in a way that honors them uniquely.
The Child Whisperer reveals that the key to raising happy, healthy, cooperative children lies in understanding and responding to a child's inner nature.
Children's true natures are written in the shape of their faces and expressed daily in their appearance, body language, tone of voice, and choice of words. Your child's unique laugh, cry, joys, worries, and even tantrums speak volumes about the type of parenting they need. And you'll learn exactly how to offer it by listening to The Child Whisperer.
This simple but unique approach actually makes parenting more intuitive, fun, cooperative, and most importantly customized to your individual child.
The Child Whisperer will give you the tools to:
- Have a happier, more cooperative child, using less discipline
- Foster more confidence and natural success in your child
- Repair trouble parent/teen relationships
- Reconnect with your adult children
The Child Whisperer teaches how to read unsaid clues that children naturally give every day, and shows how parenting, teaching, coaching, and mentoring children can be an even more intuitive, cooperative experience than ever.

Ears bleed from the verbatim read out.
Her reading verbatim, line after line makes me want to go jump off a cliff. Really. Fantastic content, however her attempt in delivery makes it unbearable to listen to. She is a wonderful, developed woman, she shouldn't have to read it terribly monotone like she did. She's a wonderful guest on talk shows, that's what made me buy her audio book... She should've reciprocated that same character in her sharing this valuable knowledge.
Fantastic system though. Just hope that she could perhaps do a redo so I could tell all my friends

Dry oratory
Excellent content. Exactly what I wanted to learned more about. Unfortunately for an audio book, the reading by Tuttle was pretty dry. I was surprised by this since I know she is not just famous for her books but for her public speaking and conferences she does. Normally I love it when an author reads their own book, but her intonation and fluctuation in voice is really lacking.

A different kind of parenting book.
What did you love best about The Child Whisperer?
The information contained in this book is very helpful to understanding children and what motivates their behavior. Having this understanding helps me work with my child more effectively.
What three words best describe Carol Tuttle’s performance?
Performance of the book is rather cut and dry. She is reading directly, just passing on the information. The worth of this book comes from her information rather than the performance. I really don't see how "performance" of an informational book could be very exciting or entertaining.
Any additional comments?
The information contained here is very valuable to any parent, any person dealing with children. Or even other people. You'll no longer be saying "WHY did you do that?" and hopefully, you'll also be able to accept your children as they are and be better able to work with them.

Narration Fast-Paced
I am only at about chapter 8 of the book, but man, this narration is fast. Carol Tuttle is a decent narrator, but it feels like she’s just reading it quickly rather than actually talking with you. That’s fine and dandy in ways, but sometimes I feel like I need to listen to parts over again because it was too quick to really understand. Different ideas aren’t separated by a pause or anything. I typically like a faster narration, and I even tend to listen to many books at the 1.25x sped, but this was a bit much. I would’ve just liked a bit more fluctuation in tempo to feel more like a lecture or a conversation rather than someone quickly reading straight from the book.

Should be slower
Book is great! I love the author and the entire subject. However, unfortunately, the narrator sounds like a race horse. It is like she is trying to finish this in a set time. She is trying to be clear on the words but because she is rushing it so much, it is very hard to focus on the story. Instead of a smooth easy reading, it is feels more like that she is running super fast and I find myself trying to chase her. It is about children and the information given is very important. Wish it was easier to audio read it. Now i have to read the actual hard copy book.

Truly some wholesome and intelligent advice for new parents! I like how she also addressed things she wished she had done differently as a parent as well. Only downfall was the audio reading itself was somewhat without voice inflection and robotic, but otherwise content is great.

Just not sure
This is my first introduction to energy profiling, so maybe I need more time to get used to it. I'm just not sure I believe it all.
That said, this book did help me to recognize the importance of valuing my child for who s/he is and not trying to force attitudes that may be counter to her/his nature.
As for the performance, I struggled in the beginning with the piano noise. It became less frequent in subsequent chapters. The author feels like she's reading and could come across as more dynamic and engaging.

a bit 'alternative' approach but works
so we've been following Carol Tuttle through the child whisperer website and following the principles loosely since we had our first child 4 years ago. I bought the book to help me understand our son better and found it matching a lot of the Child Whisperer content available online but good to have it gathered in one place. we found it actually does work and helps us to create a more peaceful home. we are now using it in conjunction with How to talk so that little (2-7) kids listen. it works for us

This book will change your life
I have read Carol's adult book Live Your Truth, but still had not totally settled on what my energy profile was. However hearing about this book put me in touch with my childhood and how I relayed to my parents and enabled me to come to a successful conclusion.
I love the way that Carol is so respectful towards children and encourages parents to also be.
It is very useful to be able to understand how the children I know relate to the word.
I am recommending this book to all the parents I have contact with.
I found that Carol's reading in the first part of the book left me stressed. I was thinking that a type 2 patent would have difficulty listening to it. Fortunately she slowed her pace and became calmer as she read about the type 2 movement. And the rest of the book was easier on my nerves.
That being said I still recommend this book very highly if you want to improve your relationships with your children, spouse and any human actually, especially yourself.

The narration is mind numbing!
I like some of the idea but I can’t stand listening any longer, her monotone super fast narration of the book is just mind numbing, it literally sent me to sleep. I wouldn’t recommend it, she also has some strange new age idea she basis her advice on. I want to understand my kids from a biological, brain based development perspective that’s founded on the scientific method.

Very Enlightening and Insightful!
I easily listened to this in two days on a long road trip. As an experienced nanny I found it very interesting and wish I listened to it earlier. The advice rings very true to me and was put in a positive and supportive way. Carol also narrated clearly and professionally as well as writing it perfectly. My family recommended it to me, as I do to you.

Detailed but not user friendly
When listening to it, one thing that is obvious is the extensive knowledge and experience the author has in regards to communicating with kids. She discusses many scenarios and varying age groups.
The most interesting aspect is understanding which of the four types your child is and to communicate according.
However there is a substantial amount of information and tips. There is so much to absorb, that I feel you would have to listen to it in its entirety at least 3 times to embed the key points.
Another thing is that she reads her writings so fast that you you have to use the app's audio speed feature to slow it down to 85%. For this reason it is not the most enjoyable book to listen to and I personally feel that most parents who listen to this book will realize it's not the children bible they had hoped it would be. I have immediately gone to the book store to find an even better book which is easier to understand and implement its principles.
I will give 3 stars due to the effort put in by the author.
