Chef

I didn't find the book very interesting till near the end. It dragged, had a lot of (I really didn't need to know ) stuffed words. It's easier to wade a river. Good plot saved it. The girl sure didnt.

Don’t bother

The reader is terrible. The voices are grating and the story itself is insipid. Not even close to my least expectation of a Patterson book. So disappointed.

I really wanted to like it but...

I was really looking forward to this book, pre order and all. I could not get into the characters. there was really no character development. the storyline was weak and I just could not relate to what was going on. I was born in New Orleans btw. The best part of the entire book was the narrator. he did a very good job. The overall story had some potential and with a little bit more work could have made a great great book. The killer chef concept was really cool but the book fell flat. not Patterson level quality.

Disappointed

I've been used to enjoying James Patterson's books for years but this one is bad. I think he wasn't even involved in the proofreading.

Terrible narration, disappointing story

I'm a huge Patterson fan, but this book was dreadful. First the narrator is awful. I didn't like him from the first. As the protagonist his voice was annoying and he cannot do a woman's POV to save his life. Worse, the character of the the Chef is a creepy horn-dog. He instantly evaluates all all women based upon sexual appeal and chases a married woman who is as sketchy as he is. Also, he's a foodie, a great chef. Who knows of a great chef who eats peppers the entire time he cooks? He's tasting his food how? His taste buds are fired up with peppers, but he knows, somehow, his food is fantastic.
Just a terrible book. I kept listening hoping it would get better, but nope. Don't waste a credit on this one!!!

Flat James Patterson.

Bad narrator. Pedestrian story, but quit book after an hour. Disappointing effort, well below what I expect from the James Patterson brand.

Done with Patterson

How could this be the same author who penned Along Came a Spider or Violets are Blue? Shallow plot, shallow characters, wrong narrator. UGGH!! I had to keep checking if this was part of his teenage series but it wasn't. No excuses on this one. It is not just disappointing, it is INSULTING!!!

Ugh! Counterfeit Patterson!!!

Awful! Patterson was not even involved ed in quality control on this assembly line imitation. You’ve heard the expression, “It’s so bad it’s good.” Well this stinker is a Frankenstein creation that’s so bad it does the unthinkable for anything Patterson - it bores!

And Michael Ziants should stick to reading refrigerator training manuals. He cannot do accents, doesn’t even try. Strange for a story set in New Orleans. No not strange - it’s just another terrible layer crushing down onto this terrible tale.

Good gravey... Don’t buy this mess. And be careful about buying anything more with the Patterson name on its cover. Apparently the guy’s getting counterfeited - badly.

Maybe the name Max DiLallo is a kind of warning that the publishers have subtly placed on certain products? Perhaps DiLallo simply means LOOKOUT! Well, I will.
