Publisher's summary

In this powerful book, happiness expert Jennifer Moss explains why burnout is so rampant - and provides simple, researched-based solutions for helping employees minimize stress and building happier workplaces.

We tend to think of burnout as a problem that we can solve with self-care: more yoga, better breathing techniques, and more resilience. But evidence is mounting that applying band-aid solutions to an epic workplace phenomenon isn't enough. If we're going to solve this problem, organizations must take the lead, developing an anti-burnout strategy that moves beyond apps, wellness programs, and perks.

In this eye-opening, conversation-shifting, and practical guide, Jennifer Moss lays bare the real causes of burnout and how organizations can stop the chronic-stress cycle that an alarming number of workers suffer through.

The Burnout Epidemic explains:

  • How burnout happens - and what to do about it
  • How traditional wellness initiatives fall short
  • How to build a strategy based on prevention, not perks
  • How to measure burnout in your organization
  • How to develop a happier culture that's high on resilience and curiosity.

As the pandemic has shown, self-care is not the cure for our problems. We need to do more. With the help of fascinating research, new findings from the pandemic, along with interviews with leaders around the globe, listeners will find insightful and actionable advice in this book - and will feel empowered to help themselves and their employees feel healthier and happier.

Mediocre

At first, I was intrigued, but not that far into it, the liberal agenda started, it was a bit much for me so it lost my attention. It is a great topic and she makes some very great points, overall, it is just “okay” and not excellent.

Took 3 months to finish it

Overall the points were interesting, but I was getting tired of the narrator whose pitch was between whiny and optimistic. She was optimistically whiny throughout the whole book, which is why it took 3 months to finish.

Great book…Encouraging

This is a great book for leaders, but also for any healthcare professionals during the Covid pandemic. Most any healthcare professional I have talked to since the pandemic began and suffering at least a bit from burn out.

I needed this book!

I couldn’t have read this book at a more perfect time. I am a Human Resources professional and have burnout myself and see burnout symptoms throughout the company I work for.

I would love it if my CEO and my company policy makers, including the HR director would read this book and make SIGNIFICANT changes.

Narration technique hard to listen to

Narrator’s emotion as she read didn’t seem genuine so might be better left out . Author’s focus on COVID pandemic as an unprecedented disaster was not accurate. It might be good to compare this pandemic against earlier data.

Narrator’s tone is beyond annoying

The tone of the narrator is unbearable and intolerable. Do not recommend the audio version of this book.

It was okay…

It went between individual burnout to systemic burnout without warning. My suggestion is it would have helped me if the sections started at a micro level and then a macro level, then wrap it all up.

Whining victim mentality

I personally experienced burnout….twice. The road to getting out is taking personal responsibility, in drawing boundaries, in challenging the workplace, in developing yourself to have other options…. Getting out of the victim mentality is the most important step. This book is all about hoe the system is at fault and wont help. Had to stop listening.
