This audiobook was such a great listen! As a “people pleaser” in the workplace, I often struggle with setting healthy boundaries. In the past, this has resulted in a lot of burnout. Sometimes I don’t even know it’s coming, which makes it even harder to prevent the negative outcomes of the burnout itself.

This audiobook offers a very clear understanding of those symptoms that can help you identify early on and avoid the downstream impacts. I also think this is a great resource for those in management positions to better help them identify the early signs and effects of employee burnout.

What a great book. As the author explains, the phenomenon of burnout has become common in our society and is getting worse. Burnout is not depression, although burnout can lead to depression, and depression can lead to burnout. As the author states, burnout is directly related to your work environment. The pandemic has just made things worse. Symptoms of burnout are headaches, reduced productivity, and feelings of incompetence, and is classified as a medical condition. The author explains that burnout is often ignored or misinterpreted by the workplace, or even worse is considered negative performance and is punished, thus being counterproductive. If you feel you are experiencing burnout, you need to get help. Other things you can do is mindfulness, exercise more, eat healthier, get better sleep, and seek mental health benefits. Unfortunately, many just try to get relief through negative habits, such as bad diets, watching TV, alcohol, and drug abuse. The author also provides steps that companies can take to avoid employee burnout. If you feel you are experiencing burnout, then read this book and decide to overcome burnout and get help.

I recently listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed it. This audiobook is essential for anyone looking to better understand burnout, its causes, and how to properly manage it, and how it closely resembles and can be misdiagnosed for stress and depression. The author does a great job of outlining each step of the process, from spotting workplace burnout, to understanding the consequences of burnout, and how to effectively communicate with leadership. Throughout the audiobook, the author provides helpful examples from their own experiences and outlines specific strategies for effectively managing workplace burnout.
