Publisher's summary

From the author of The Bone Shard Daughter comes the final book in the Drowning Empire series, as the fate of Lin Sukai—and her family’s dynasty—lay in her hands in this action-packed, magic-laced epic fantasy.

Lin Sukai has won her first victory as Emperor, but the future of the Phoenix Empire hangs in the balance—and Lin is dangerously short of allies.

As her own governors plot treason, the Shardless Few renew hostilities. Worse still, Lin discovers her old nemesis Nisong has joined forces with the rogue Alanga, Ragan. Both seek her death.

Yet hopes lies in history. Legend tells of seven mythic swords, forged in centuries past. If Lin can find them before her enemies, she may yet be able to turn the tide.

If she fails, the Sukai dynasty—and the entire empire—will fall.

At least it is done

Too many contradictions and plot holes in this 3rd and final part of the trilogy. At times rushed and at other times too slow moving. Characters knowing information they had no reason to know. Characters acting in ways against their typical personality. The very end of the book, what I would consider an epilogue, it was good.

An Excellent End to the Trilogy

I went into this one just wanting to finish the trilogy. Lin was making awful choices, and honestly, I just wanted it to wrap up and end. However, this book was a vast improvement over the second reaching the heights of the first by the end. Stewart did an excellent job of differentiating Lin from her father, showing the breaks between the Elonga, and wrapped up the personal stories deftly and expertly. While the ending may be a little 'happier ever after' it was very nice to see some positives come out of a world of sinking islands, war, and conflict.

All in all very nicely done.

an amazing end

I am always apprehensive about epic endings. I get so invested and I worry it can all go wrong. but this ending was one all at once beautiful, sad, hopeful, and heart-filling.

Very satisfying story arcs

The third installment was well worth the wait. I fear sharing anything else may ruin the unadulterated joy of delving into a much awaited book!

Since there’s a lot to digest and keep track of - geographical as well as character development and continued evolution of story arcs from books 1 and 2, I went back and re-listened to both before delving into the third.

Exceptional cast of narrators. This is an easy decision for spending a credit. Go for it!

Well done

This was a wonderful series. A fitting read from the author without giving us everything we wanted.

Good

I was excited when this book came out for being the last book of the series, but I also didn’t want to read it because I know how long these books are. There was a lot of stuff in this book that I felt could’ve probably been taken out and made the book a little shorter. It bounced around a lot between Lynn, Jovis, Nisong, and some of the other main characters in this series. I was definitely getting bored with this series, but I didn’t want to stop because I wanted to see how the book ended. The only ones in this book that I was not getting bored with were Lynn and Jovis’s furry companions. Fortunately, the bad characters in this book finally got what they deserved except for Nisong. She got off a lot better than she should have. There were some sad things that happened to some of the good guys in this book but I’m glad to see it’s over. I did think it was interesting that Lynn finally figured out what made the islands sink and what made the islands to begin with.

The Bone Shard War!

This was a pretty good ending of the series. Its a bit slow in places, but everything comes together in the end. I enjoyed the characters. The narrators were very good throughout the series.

Well done

The ending to this trilogy is extremely satisfying. The complex relationships resolve in a way that feels very natural. And and the supernatural elements of the story make a lot of sense by the end. Very well done.
