In Gilded Age New York, a centuries-long clash between two magical families ignites when a young witch must choose between love and loyalty, power and ambition, in this magical novel by Louisa Morgan.

In 1692, Bridget Bishop was hanged as a witch. Two hundred years later, her legacy lives on in the scions of two very different lines: one dedicated to using their powers to heal and help women in need; the other, determined to grasp power for themselves by whatever means necessary.

This clash will play out in the fate of Annis, a young woman in Gilded Age New York who finds herself a pawn in the family struggle for supremacy. She'll need to claim her own power to save herself-and resist succumbing to the darkness that threatens to overcome them all.

Praise for The Age of Witches:

"Narrator Polly Lee brings her own brand of magic to a story of witches at a time when women were not allowed to be agents of their own destiny. Her vocal choices craft exceptionally bright and well-defined characters of different classes who embody distinct styles, and personalities. Her voices create a polished performance full of the vocal subtleties of a well-told story." —AudioFile

"Morgan's beautifully conjured tale of three women, social mores, and the sanctity of self-determination is thoroughly enthralling." —Booklist (starred review)

"Morgan’s incantatory prose and independent-minded women will delight fans of Alice Hoffman and Sarah Addison Allen with this tale of female self-realization and magical realism. A highly enjoyable read." —Historical Novel Society

I could hardly put this down. I listen mostly in my car so I was finding excuses to go somewhere. The narration was great! The story line enthralling. Kudos Louisa! Loved it!

This story was good but it didn't enrapture me like other stories have. The beginning was a bit slow but as it continued the story line became interesting. The women's voices except for the main character Anise were all very unappealing and nasal like, but perhaps that was intended. In my opinion it's a decent story and I did enjoy it overall, just not my absolute favorite.

Good

I almost didn't get this because of some bad reviews on the narrator, but I decided to try it. I am so glad I did! I loved this book. I thought the narrator was good too. I recommend this one!

Great Book

This book had enough of everything to keep me interested. A little romance, a little heroism, a little witch business. It is just a great book and the narration was fantastic. Loved all the characters, the plot, the voices for each person. Just a really good book.

I read the first two books in this "series", and found them deep and thoughtful with great storylines and difficult subjects.
This one I listened to. I loved the storyline here as well and appreciate the focus on women's rights and the tragedy of what was done to powerful women.
The narration did make this story feel less serious, perhaps less impactful but it was certainly tolerable. And I grew to enjoy each character's nuance.

Narrator not as bad as people say

This was a pretty well written and performed classic tale. From its undertones to plot. Definitely worth the listen
