Publisher's Summary

The Black Angel is not an object. The Black Angel is not a myth. The Black Angel lives. A young woman goes missing from the streets of New York. Those who have taken her believe that nobody cares about her, and that no one will come looking for her. They are wrong. She is 'blood' to the killer Louis, the man who stands at the right hand of private detective Charlie Parker, and Louis will tear apart anyone who stands in the way of his attempts to find her. But as Louis's violent search progresses, Parker comes to realize that the disappearance is part of an older mystery, one that is linked to an ornate church of bones in Eastern Europe, to the slaughter at a French monastery in 1944, and to the quest for a mythical prize that has been sought for centuries by evil men: the Black Angel.

Yet the Black Angel is more than a myth. It is conscious. It dreams. It is alive. And men are not the only creatures that seek it…

Another excellent instalment in the Charlie Parker

Another excellent instalment in the Charlie Parker series. As each individual book in this series unfolds more of the back story is revealed. The back is all about Charlie Parker and his slow recognition of who and what he is. So far each book has held my interest through to the end. Interesting enough to try the next one in the series at some point. Jeff Harding is the only narrator for this series.

Lecter eats Langdon in Marlowes office.

I have not read this particular genre before but it was a cracking first read of a John Connolly book. Part serial killer thriller, part detective noir and part supernatural mystery but with just the right touch of humour and a freshness to the prose to keep you listening. Imagine Silence of the lambs meets the Da Vinci code with the mystery untangled by Raymond Chandler after a night watching the Omen.
Not only does John Connollys story entertain but Jeff Harding as the narrator does an excellent job. I feel he struggled in one or two places with pronunciation but overall he brought the book to life.

Undercurrents

Probably my favourite Charlie Parker novel. A fine selection of characters, humour, rich language with the recurring undercurrent becoming more clear. I love the hints of the eternal struggle between good and evil manifested in the corporeal plane.

The disintegration of Charlie's marriage at first seems a little cliched but as things develop cliched is not what it is.

Once against wonderfully read by Jeff Harding. Thanks Jeff

One of the Best of Connolly's Bunch.

"The Black Angel" my most revisited Parker book throughout the years, it borrows from the esoteric themes of the books that have gone before it and attempts to tie them up in a scary knot. Connolly is so bold in his treatment of the supernatural in this one that it ought to detract from its credulity but it doesn't. Instead it makes for a compelling listen..and it helps that Harding is in good form.

yes

This book was very good, but I wish Audible didn't require at least 15 words to submit a good review; yes, I see the irony in this.

The supernatural breaks through

An excellent, well written crime novel. But at this point on the series the supernatural bleeds through so it can't be denied any more. Previously there were hints of ghosts seen from a world beyond the living, but these could have been dismissed as psychological effects of guilt. No more. The Fallen angels live amongst us. Delighting in nightmare horrors. Charlie Parker falls unwillingly into the role of protector. But can one guilt ridden man save humanity from an evil so hideous it was banished from heaven and is beyond God's redemption? Let's hope so.

A good solid read!

An enjoyable Charlie Parker yarn. Perhaps a little OTT on the supernatural side of things with this particular plot. Jeff Harding's narration saves the day. An enjoyable read. I'll stay tuned into the series.

Insight into Louis' past

What made the experience of listening to The Black Angel the most enjoyable?

The book was well read and the characters easily identifiable by the use of different voice characterisations

Who was your favorite character and why?

Louis. He is dark and mysterious and of course a killer but he has a depth of character and an interesting history.

What does Jeff Harding bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

A greater depth and quality to the characters

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

When angels fall they can rise again..

Any additional comments?

A very enjoyable book.
