Publisher's summary

Some things are easily forgiven. Other things...not so much.

Lenny DeMaio made herself a promise: She was done.

Done thinking about him.

Done worrying about him.

Done reaching out to a man who clearly didn’t want to be found.

Too bad no one gave Jonah Collins the memo.

Beautiful

What a beautiful flowing book. Takes you through a roller coaster of emotions. The love in this whole family in the book makes it a real feel good read/listen. The narrators were wonderful.

Absolutely love it

This story is great. I've laughed and I've cried. Both narrators are wonderful. Just a little warning: there's quite a bit of cussing, but give it a chance. You'll see it's all worth it.

Endearing story & great narration

Let's start with the obvious... It's a Mariana Zapata story so that means this is a character driven story. This is a 14 hour long audio and the storytelling is key for the success of this story. The pace and the tone of the book were well spaced out, the character development felt very organic and real. You were basically getting to know a family, and as all of Mariana Zapata's stories, family is always a central theme. She is able to put you in the mind of this independent and strong-willed woman and her life circumstances. You get emotionally invested for sure!! The narration, to me, is what makes the audio book even more engaging. Callie Dalton as Lenny is a GEM and she delivers one of her best performances. Callum Gittins is a great Kiwi performer and brought out great vulnerability to Jonah. Just keep in mind there in no chapter written in the male POV. He only speaks his dialogue throughout the story. I will say that the reason what i had to give this story a 4 stars is because of the epilogue. I get that the author wanted to give us, the listener, a feel for the life of this family. She basically tied things up very well. My thing is that she ended the story on a very sad note. A book that overall gave you very uplifting emotions of being able to trust again and loving the people around you just as they are basically gives and ending that left me in tears. it was beautifully written, but that ending was overkill in the emotional department. Other than that, a solid slow burn story with very little on the sexy factor but high on the character and emotional scale.

Very good

This is a very good slow burn romance. The reader is excellent, and the hero is a doll. Added bonus? I really liked the heroine, too. Throw in some strong secondary characters, and it made for a satisfying read. My only complaint are her repetitious messages for him that said the same things over and over.

5 stars!

I'm writing this with tears streaming down my face. Everything about this was perfection. The narrators are perfect, as always, and the story has so much heart, so much tenderness, and I will be listening to this again and again.

Audio Makes It Even Better!

I am a huge fan of this authors works, and as I am caught up on her books, I wanted to savor this one for when I had time to just sit and escape into Lenny’s world. Just so happens one of my book buddies was ready at the same time, so we read it together which made it even more enjoyable.

I went into this novel blind as I anticipated I’d love it no matter what the subject was. I knew it was Lenny’s story whom we had met in Luna and the Lie. She’s one of the most sassiest characters with a heart you could meet. I also heard that it had a hero who played Rugby Union which is an exciting game to watch, so I was hooked just from knowing these two facts. I adored Jonah with a little j just as much as Jonah with a big J!

This book has a different feel to other stories from MZ. One of the elements is that it’s a second chance romance, but the reunion has that delicious slow burn component that makes MZ the Queen. There were other twists and surprises in their tale that made me smile and cheer. Another sure essence to a MZ story is her secondary characters. Luna made a few appearances which was fab because I have missed her but my favorite in this book hands down is Grandpa Gus! That guy got some amazing lines which will crack you up. The one that will melt your heart the most is Mo but Peter will forever have a place in my heart with his devotion.

I will be adding this to my annual re reads with all of my MZ books.

ADDED: As with every MZ book, you can not go past reading it with audio. I was sick on a cruise recently and could only listen to books and I knew that this edition would make my heart sing. Loved it. Highly recommend this audio with Jonah crooning in your ear.

I loved this 2nd chance, slow burn story.

A little bit of a redemption story mixed with such a slow burn that i know Ms. Zapata does so well. I don't know how to put this into words. I loved reading the book first but listening to the actors voices just ties everything together. I can't recommend this enough.
