Publisher's summary

A post-viral planet. Annihilation approaches.Tom Evans and Ceri Lewis occupy a silent new world. Little more than a million people survived the Cleansing. They are spread out, weak, compelled by a force beyond their comprehension to remain where they are. Humankind teeters on the brink, its fate in the hands of the few who can resist the power that seeks to control them. But resistance may be futile. In the midst of deathly calm, a new threat arises, one that will finish the job started by the Cleansing. Tom and Ceri face a stark choice: gamble their lives to try to stop activation of the Beacon, or lie low and wait for the human race to be exterminated. Either way, the end seems certain....

Great characters and even better storyline. I can’t wait to devour the next!

The Beacon
Dislike: I had a bit of a hard time with the accent at first but within a few chapters it helped me immerse into the story as it takes place in the UK (and I’m American- hence the accent issue). I’m also used to some humor in stories, this has none but it ends up working. This is not a funny story and the characters have nearly all been through incredible traumas.
Likes : Fascinating storyline! I cannot wait to see where it goes! There are a few theories I have and tons of questions and this is the best part of reading a new series that pulls you in! The question of where is the author taking me and the anticipation of finding out! I love the characters and their relationships! Questions are answered in a plausible way though there are always remaining ones that keep you on your toes.
Recommend to: Anyone who enjoys dystopians novels, particularly where the world has ended. And the inevitable questions: why and what happens next?? I also watch a ton of YouTube with evolution and space and I think anyone who watches these would also enjoy this series without giving away any spoilers.
Ratings chosen: Overall I really enjoyed the book as well as the further evolution of the characters- they definitely each grew and had more depth to them to enjoy. As I mentioned earlier, there is not much if any humor or if there is it might not be something I caught. While we absolutely see the human spirit, part of what makes us, us, is our sense of humor. That is probably the only thing lacking and why it was not a 5 in my opinion. Overrall, fantastic book and fantastic series so far! Very excited for the finale and hoping for news of a preorder.
