Wow! I REALLY enjoyed this book!

What did you love best about The Border?

If I told you this book had aliens, zombies and psychic powers all rolled into an end-of-world theme, you'd probably run screaming from this book. I almost did. But this author actually made all this WORK! Not just work - but its a great story!

Who was your favorite character and why?

All the characters were VERY well developed and its hard to pick a favorite. Ethan, the main character is the obvious choice. But event he more minor characters - JD, Hannah, Nicki - are all great. The author didn't make the mistake of making the good guys perfect. They are flawed and human.

Have you listened to any of Fred Berman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Fred Berman is one of my absolute favorite narrators!

Great book!

Very enjoyable from start to finish. Well worth the 5 star rating I gave it in my opinion. McCammons writing along with the excellent narration by Fred Berman easily takes your mind into this sifi novel adventure.

Not nearly as good as his other books imo

The narration was irritating & over the top in places. I found myself almost nauseated & certainly bored. Not a terrible book, but I'm not giving it above 3/5. Review by Rick

Slow starter but goes to 11!

I wasn't very excited about this book for the first few chapters-- it took a while for me to care about the characters. However, that changed drastically once the action started hitting them like bricks. The book is epic and mind-bending in a good way, touching on what it ultimately means to be human at the same time as entertaining the hell out of you.

There is also a ton of stress-inducing suspense. Sometimes, listening to it while doing household chores, I found myself hunching forward, or if I were at my desk, unconsciously leaning forward, tapping my foot on the ground nervously. That hardly ever happens. It starts slower than I would have liked, but quickly progresses to unputdownable. And once it hits fever pitch, the pace doesn't stop.

If you like horror and sci-fi, apocalypse and/or alien stories, survival stories, or just good stories in general, get this book. It also feels oddly timely considering the events of the last few years, not in a direct way, but in a way that makes you wonder why the story feels so familiar. Maybe it's just that I love horror and sci-fi ain't bad either. Maybe it's just because it's a damn good story. Either way, it's the story I needed to hear right now, and I'm going to start listening to McCammon's other books. This is the first one I've listened to of his, and I'm very impressed.

Phenominal reading of an okay story

The story took a bit to get in to but the reading and distinct character voices carry it masterfully. I feel that McCammon, while very talented, does not have the best writing of action sequences and unfortunately much of the book revolves around intricate details of battles and comba and the plot plods along for nearly the first half of the book because of this.

Enjoyable sci-fi thriller by Robert McCammon

I had just finished listening to "Swan Song" which I enjoyed so much, that I wanted to hear another audio book by the same author. My friend recommended this one, and it was another hit. Gripping, exciting and suspenseful! Very well narrated too. Now if I could only find "Stinger" on Audibles so I could make it three in a row!

Predictable and slow.

Really struggled with this book. Good concept but poor execution. The ending was quite weak and a cope out in my opinion. I couldn't really connect with the characters.

Pretty good!

Well at first I was kind of put off by the narrator because I'd never heard anything from him before. Once I got going though the narration felt natural and true to the characters.

Wow Great Story!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The story was great, character development was so good I felt like I knew them. Characters were believable(no super heroes, even the super hero) I was rooting for them from the beginning. The story was fast paced but not non stop action sequences, it had the right mix to tell a good story while keeping your intrest peaked. It was definitely more than I expected and the ending was surprising and moving. I was even able to look past the authors poor firearms knowledge which is usually a deal breaker for me( they are magazines not clips, and revolvers don't have safeties). I definitely recommend this book as its not just another alien apocalypse story it was much deeper and very entertaining a 5 star book.

McCammon nails another post apocalyptic story. if you enjoyed his other work than this one will pull you in just as well.
