Publisher's summary

A homeless young woman finds an unexpected family in beloved New York Times bestselling author Carolyn Brown's novel of healing hearts and new beginnings in a small Texas town.

In the fading town of Rooster, Texas, all that's really left is a service station, a church…and the Banty House, a long-ago Depression-era brothel. For more than seventy-five years, Betsy, Connie, and Kate Carson have called their mama's house a home. The three eccentric sisters get by just fine with their homemade jams and jellies, a little moonshine on the side, and big hearts always open to strangers. Like Ginger Andrews.

An abandoned teen with a baby on the way and nowhere to go, she's given a room to call her own for as long as she wants. The kind invitation is made all the sweeter when Ginger meets the sisters' young handyman, Sloan Baker. But with a past as broken as Ginger's, he's vowed never to get close to anyone again. As a season of change unfolds, Ginger and Sloan might discover a warm haven to heal in the Banty House, a place to finally belong, where hope and dreams never fade.

One of Carolyn Brown's Best

The story of three elderly sisters, living in the old town brothel is funny and touching. The three are as feisty as can be.
Also they have good, caring hearts and help those who need help. But watch out, they throw a pretty good right hook
after all these years. Think you'll enjoy this one!

OMG!

This book didn’t just tear at my heartstrings, it ripped them to shreds! The characters are so well developed that I felt like I was standing in their midsts. They were so endearing, I wanted to march up to the Banty House and claim them as my own. If you like stories like Steel Magnolias, this is definitely the book for you. Ms. Vacker did a perfect job of bringing them to life. I’ll be listening to this one again.

Ridiculously cheesy

True confession, I love Hallmark movies, and even I thought this story was totally cheesy. It was cringe-worthy cheesiness. Everything from the characters to situations to the storyline were simply idiotic. I doubt I will ever try a Carolyn Brown book again. It was a total waste of good listening time.

Great

Loved this story
The story brought the generations together so sweetly and told the story of how a girl in the system could still survive

Skip This One

I am a Carolyn Brown fan, but this book fell very short. It was very predictable and droned on for what felt like an eternity. I finally gave up and skipped to the last four chapters. Apparently I did not miss much. Narration was mediocre at best.
