About this listen

Open and honest or a closed book? Ian Tuhovsky explores the art of reading people.

How many times have you assumed that you knew somebody and what they were about, only to be completely blindsided when they behave in a way that contradicts everything you thought you knew?

Reading between the lines

We often think we have a fair amount of ability in reading people until the moment when we’re proven wrong.

Chances are that you’ve heard the phrase, "I read you like a book" which indicates that somebody has understood another’s thought processes to the point that they’re able to predict what that person might do next.

Known as social intelligence, we like to kid ourselves that we are reading people when, in effect, we are mostly just guessing. In fact, for most people, "reading people" is really just thinly disguised empathy where they are projecting their own feelings and thoughts onto the situation and reading it accordingly.

Reading you loud and clear

Without the superpowers of a mind-reader, many of us suffer the consequences of ineffectual people reading throughout our lives. Through a number of exercises and tutorial content, you'll find how to more effectively identify and interpret the behavior of others in order to more fully understand their motivations and intentions.

What you'll learn:

  • How to identify manipulative and toxic personalities - and the four personality types we should be aware of; those who are good and good for us, those who are good but bad for us, those who are bad but good for us and, those who are bad and bad for us
  • The dangers of simplistic labelling such as "good" and "bad"
  • Differentiating between subjective and objective "goodness"
  • How to identify the ways you are being manipulated by others without being aware of it
  • How to read your relationships with others in order to understand your role in them

A must-listen for those who constantly find themselves being let down or manipulated by others.

Great book tons to learn

I liked how the data was explicitly tuned for profoundly touchy individuals since I regularly feel that I am like this. The finish of the book was committed to self-care thoughts and methods, which was a positive, supportive approach to close the book.

Clear and informative

Very well described and easy to understand this book (Excellent For Dummies books) proves its worth daily for me at work. This book is a foundation to allow you to begin building your skills, and as such it does the job very well.

Eye Opener

First time listening to this author and narrator, both did great I have no problem listening to this author or narrator. The narrator has a perfect voice for this genre.

Great book for self help on how to avoid toxic people, a eye opener for sure.

Shortest 3 hour book...EVER.

Listened to this audible book in one go..felt like an hour tops, so i had to check again to see if i had misread the length. narrator is into what he reads, and makes it so easy to listen, compared to others. He also makes some gestures in the way he reads that gives the content more meaning and more understanding. learned probably a couple of good tips, but its a good reminder to what we already know, if not, then it covers most of the variables out there, when it comes to bad people, including diagnosis.

This book was a good read for me, Ian, keep writing these books. But for my interests, id love to get more details from an in depth situations/perspective, where the pre- and post analysis of a situation covers in depth knowlegde to be shared. almost like a clinical study, and really juice it from facts.

anywho 🤣 I highly recommend this book, regardless of the authors kind request of feedback, being a person who reads between the lines, i kind of got a smug smile on my face in the end, realising what just happened 🤭😉

Life changing techniques

Basically divided into two sections, the first describes the majority of difficult people you may encounter throughout your day, whilst the second part gives more examples of the types of situation and people and describes how to deal with those situations. Awesome!!
