Publisher's summary

Mordecai’s growing power and success have made him a threat, not just to the gods and their minions, but also to the king of Lothion.

An unholy bargain has been struck to bring him to heel and increasingly it seems that victory may not be worth the price, not if the cost is measured in the blood of his family.

Wizard, lord, husband, father, and now archmage...no man can balance so many roles without sacrificing something.

Will the world be worth saving if it costs him the very reasons he has for living in it?

Great author and series

In addition to being a great Sci fi series, it is a fairly unique take and explanation of magic. This author is also skilled at sewing the theme of love, and not just for family. Also wonderfully humorous.

I’m hooked !

I absolutely love this book series and I’m finding it hard to put it down . I’ve seen comments about this series being Mr. Mannings first and because of that it’s not as good as his others he wrote later on …but I disagree wholeheartedly. I like these books just as much as the Art of the Adept series , honestly even more so 😊 I like Mordecai’s character better !
My only critique is that even though I know Mordecai is meant to be with Penelope, I was rooting for him and Lady Rose Hightower , even now ! ….some may boo me for that comment but I think she’s better suited for him and they are both very attracted to each other in more ways than just looks . Besides , I found Penny irritating, even from the first book . O well , can’t have it all I guess 🫤 but I still love the series 💯 10:10 !!!

A bit predictable but the end makes it all worth while.

The narrator was good as usual. I think he underdeveloped the alcoholic aspect-not so easy to stop from what I understand. I thought the separation was a bit underdeveloped, conversely. But those are small things, the ending was great and tied up history well.

Each book gets better

I am enjoying the characters more with each book. The suspense of life and death is gripping.

There is always hope!

What a wonderful 3rd part to the story! Some questions are answered some are asked and some are even…..over looked. Voice acting and writing are top notch as usual no surprise there. Hurry up and release the 4th book already lol

The book was good until the end

The book was great for me until the ending. The main character faces an adversary that should’ve stomped him and yet is able to overcome and continue on like nothing happened. This should’ve been the finale of the series in my opinion as where we go from here most likely will only be more out there. I also dislike the lack of resolution on the undead. They’ve been around two books now and our character just lets them be without hunting them down. In book two it was they will destroy the world and spread like rabbits but our characters just doesn’t seem to care about them. Finally there were no real losses or stakes like the last book. I would’ve liked to see some sort of repercussions for the character’s actions or just something happen for using so much power or family in turmoil. This whole book moved the story inches and lacked real loss and real stakes.
